I suspect there may have been a type on the original post. It'll be Thursday September 22 that was meant for the UK launch with the second episode airing Friday September 23.

That does however mean that ITV will air 6+ hours of The X Factor across four days over two channels. And that doesn't include an additional hour or two of The Xtra Factor as well. That's a lot.

EDIT - Beaten to the typo correction.

Why?

Much easier competition than Monday and a lot of press coverage in the last two days. Both Red or Black shows should be hitting 6m tonight.

As rzt pointed out tonight, Downton Abbey gets lots of mentions on this thread, but it also seems to have built up some kind of sacred cow status in media circles, far more than Doc Martin (which gets roughly the same audience figures on the same channel, sometimes in the same Sunday 9pm slot). I don't know why it's a sacred cow to the media. I know Julian Fellowes is flavour of the month in media circles, and it's never been the done thing to criticise anything Maggie Smith is involved in, but I don't think these things explain why it's fiercely protected by the press.”

I have noticed it too. Downton Abbey seems to have already reached British institution level whereby its sacriliege to criticise it or do anything that may harm it.

That line did make me smile-sounds like a 1980's mini series.

The football did well, actually higher for the match than I thought it would be.
Its a strange situation where the press dont really want Capello to succeed and yet England keep on winning. And curious that even though they do win, the perception is England have become rather dull lacking talisman type figures like Beckham or Gascoigne. The fact that England are close to sealing qualification probably urged a few more to tune in, but Barcleona style it aint.

The football pulled in a very strong figure for ITV1 as Welsh fans were interested in the match as well as English fans. Usually the match itself only pulls in a 6m average. Maybe ITV1 should lobby for the return of the Home Nations Tournament and air England's matches?

I think Celebrity Big Brother should've performed better than that but it's got a decent average overall so far. CSI: Miami recorded a reasonable figure considering it was up against the football. They'll be pleased to see Neighbours above the 1m mark.

Seven Dwarves seemed to take a dip against the football and Shameless had definitely seen better days. Hollyoaks is still doing well and The Simpsons really performs well in the early evening slot.

The Great British Bake Off is recording terrific figures for BBC Two, and Escape To The Country did ok in the 7pm hour, possibly benefiting from no Emmerdale. I thought The Mercury may have performed slightly better than that but maybe Big Brother and Shameless took some of the audience away.

BBC One had a reasonable evening; holding up well against the football though EastEnders and Holby City both suffered slightly. The One Show really benefited from no Emmerdale and the Strictly Come Dancing reveal. The Twins of The Twins Towers performed very well in the post news slot.

Sacrilege it may be, but is anybody else getting sick of seeing that bloody trailer? I don't watch much ITV1, so goodness knows how people who watch ITV1 all night (Gran, I mean you...) are reacting to it.

I wonder how much royalties Bono is getting from ITV? Probably more than he made from the last U2 album!

Only big fans will watch the American one, although the first couple might get a few viewers out of curiosity, and they would generally be people who want more of the show so it may not be too much of an issue. It could temporarily turn people away from the channel, but when you consider ITV2's demographic I don't think it will do much harm. If anything, being aired alongside the UK version could boost the US version where it could tail off if it was aired in January, like American Idol does. Speaking of which, are ITV2 showing the next one of those?

Is it wrong that part of me hopes the second series of Downton Abby bombs? Not because I dislike the show (although I'm not a particularly big fan either) or ITV but just because it would be amusing if all this media hype ended with the show crashing and burning. Obviously I don't think that's going to happen but still, I'd laugh!

I'm sure there's more than a few on here who would be rubbing their hands with glee.

I don't expect all those hours of The X Factor to do any damage except maybe to my own personal mental state. I do however think it is interesting to note how much of it ITV are going to be airing.

And I would assume American Idol will be back in its usual slot on ITV2 next year.

Just seen the Strictly Come Dancing Lineup. I Really hope that does bad in the ratings. I don't have a clue who any of those so called Celebritys are More of a Dancing on Ice Line up to be honest.

Believe it's a strong line-up myself, I knew all but one of them on reading the list.

Come off it. There's only one name on there I'd never heard off (the tennis player aptly named "Lobb"). They might not be familiar household names in your household, but I think it's Strictly's strongest line-up yet.

I accept Russell Grant is a weak spot, but he'll be off in week 1 anyway...

You can't blame ITV for getting narked (and whining to the newspapers) at BBC1 putting "proper competition" on against Downton. After all they rolled over and died against BBC1's most popular drama series.

Now come on, surely Show Me The Funny was destined in ITV1's eyes "to be one of the TV events of 2011"?

It wouldn't have got the flagship Monday 9pm slot otherwise...

Got to agree- the SCD line up is a strong one this year. I dont watch Waterloo Road so didnt know that actress but knew everyone else.

The only thing it is missing is 1 big name (Kelly Brook,Rachel Stevens, Emma Bunton,Michelle Williams are previous examples) to help it create a bigger buzz but overall it is a good line up.

So will I. don't get me wrong i love the show i just think the BBC Should done better then a Daybreak presenter. And i still think it should have had 1 big name star but i suppose with the cuts happening with the BBC At the moment that won't happen for a long time.
