Hollyoaks obviously brings in good demos though, so C4 will be looking to keep it on I would imagine.

Also worth noting that the other tea-time soaps, Neighbours and H&A are also down year on year at the moment, so not just Hollyoaks.”
Thanks for that. Yes, although it is a positive they're above 1m consistently now it is quite sad to see people talk about ratings of 1.2-1.3m as being a "hit" when they were consistently getting a million more than that not so long ago.

Have they axed The Beat Goes On then - and is that the documentary series rather than a film?

Yes, ITV (and the BBC - the BBC more so actually) need to be finding new talent but to suggest one flop and Ant and Dec are past it is ridiculous. Of all the criticism of Red or Black very little, if any, of it lands and the feet of Ant and Dec. And they're not exactly over exposed - generally speaking they have their two regular gigs (I'm a Celeb/BGT) and a series of their own each year. I think this is their first autumn series other than I'm a Celeb since 2007.

Galllowgate failed to get ratings for Push the Button, Duel and Beat the Star. The only firms that has done business for the network lately has been Avalon with TV Burp, ITV Studios with I'm a Celebrity and Dancing on Ice, Talkback's All Star Family Fortunes and the Talkback Thames/Syco combo with BGT and TXF. ITV Studios have got two entertainment hits at the moment and that is I'm a Celebrity and The Chase but The Chase is not a show for primetime. We shall see if Gethin Jones's new show (produced by 12Yard, which ITV owns) performs this Sunday but I doubt it will be a success. I didn't mention Objective's The Cube, or RDF's Sing if You Can. Although they produce respectable numbers, neither can get over 6 million.”
A nice anlaysis - puts things into perspective. Ultimately it doesn't matter where ITV find their next big hit from and we should be grateful they've realised that they need to look beyond ITV Studios to find it.

Cloned - um I dont think much of this "BBC Future Formats team" were they responbile for Dont Scare The Hare.”
Sounds awful. I'm sure nowadays when looking for new game shows they just begin with the word "celebrity" and make it up from there.

Hardly - the hard earned reputation of RTL's Five went through the gutter as soon as Northern and Shell bought it and bought in Big Brother. They've told their long term viewers of the US crime shows to piss off - and pissed off most Big Brother fans too.
The figure you really should be comparing with is what Five was rating in the BB slots last year - as the extra million or so viewers is almost certainly not worth the £40m that is being shelled out for it.

Comedy? Reality? Young skewing factual? Soho Blues doesn't make use of having CBB following it, US Drama and Cowboy Builders don't need it, Gadget Show isn't using it. Time to take some risks, on one night a week at least IMO. Could Channel 5 develop a BB spin off to air at 8pm one night a week to act as a sandwich?”
Exactly - it's not helping the channel at all beyond it's own slot, and if anything is just highlighting the dross that C5 has to offer. And that's what they get for going for casual viewers.
