Thing is, this series has not gained OR lost any audience.
The interest is not being lost, but it is not being gained.

Normally, the 1st HL show rated the best, bar launch and final. But the ratings have been static in the last three days, which shows the same people are watching. No one is turning off since the 1st HL show (which they normally do, after around a 50% drop from launch to the 1st show, there is usually a drop between the 1st show to the 2nd show), this did not happen this year.

They just need to break the 2m barrier.

I wonder if this series of BB fails that they could change the contract to perhaps two celebrity series a year and extend them to 4 weeks each, or something similar?

On the other hand excellent for Doc Martin. It's just what ITV needed after a poor start to the Autumn season. The 2 year break didn't harm it at all and it's great to have managed its best opener since its first series.”

Its a long shot and possibly a huge risk, but they should air Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5 in January where it should get around 2m, and bump Big Brother to 5* where it should be able to retain about 500,000-1m viewers and they'd be able to begin to establish 5* as a real competitor to E4 and ITV2. It could save them a lot of embarrassment too if the figures begin to sink very fast.

The interesting thing is BOTS is only down around 200,000 from where it was with CBB, suggesting that those who are watching it are enjoying it so the audience may not collapse as quickly as it did with CBB.

OK return for Doc Martin - 8.4m is on a par with what New Tricks was getting in that slot, although that was during summer and I suspect DM won't timeshift as well.

I thought it would break 9m given the disappointingly weak BBC1 opposition - I assume the palaces thing languished on about 3m?

And why would they?

Every time you switch on ITV lately, there's been a DM trailer, interspersed with that Downton one. I would imagine DM was heavily trailed throughout the ITV soaps last night, too...

what about the non ITV faithfull? who might still watch Doc Martian even if they dont also watch other ITV shows to see the trailer in.

Its been two years, I could forgive somebody that mistake.

What does Loose Women get?
Pamela Anderson is on the show today I think, so that's around 1m people, promotion for BB? They bloody well need it

On Big Brother the daytime repeat is doing very poorly. I wonder if putting it on at 8am might get it a better figure for the folks going into school/ work?

Fantastic figure for Doc Martin - really nice to have it back on our screens, too.

Queen's Palaces seemed like odd scheduling to me...felt it should belong in that Sunday night 'heritage' slot where David Dimbleby's series go. Still, when you're up against a juggernaut like DM, I suppose getting around 4m is a decent result.

Interesting that even with that brilliant DM inheritance, ITV News at Ten could still only manage 3m, against 4.3m on BBC1.

Watched some of Rude Tube last night and really did not like it not as good as it was before.

Great return for Doc Martin. 8.4m is well up on the last 2 series premieres. I expect this series could grow as at the moment we are still in September, which is after all, the 4th warmest month of the year.

I hope Dragons Den didn't die, I expect it must have been dented quite a bit.

At least BB beat Rude Tube I suppose.

You dont seem to understand the vast majority are sick and tired of these lowest common denominator shows.
People know very well it is on, they just do not want to watch it, even people at work who normally lap this stuff up have said it is utter rubbish and the characters involved are just so thick they cant watch it. It will be under 1million in a few days time.

Aii of yesterdays ratings have been posted on Gallifrey base. I'm unable to copy and paste them over atm. Looks like DM had more viewers than the soaps.

Agree with this, I don't know why people go on asking why people don't know it's on. They do, they just don't want to watch it, it's simple. The question is, why don't people want to watch it? Like above, I know some BB fans who are just fed up with the whole concept.

I was a big BB fan in the early series, but lost interest rapidly as it descended into 'twists', wannabees, exhibitionism and low rent telly, then turning into the absolute gutter it is now (I tuned into the launch night, in hope, but that was that for me).

I can't see it going below 1m at the minute to be honest. It may happen over the course of the run, but a sudden drop of over 30% would be quite big. At the moment the audience it does have appears to be very stable.

Easily a series low for Dragons' Den. Shame to see it go out on a low note. With better scheduling from BBC Two it could have rated better.

2.2m for Embarrassing Bodies?! Ouch. Well down on the 4m+ opener for its last series in January on Friday nights. Looks like overexposure is finally killing that one off.

According to Vulture, ABC has been heavily promoting their new show, Revenge. In fact, it has been strongly marketed to the point where it doubles Charlie's Angels reboot. Since July 19, Revenge had 660 seconds of promo, whereas Charlie's Angels had 355 (as of September 7). I guess ABC really want their Wednesday 10pm drama to work, given the strings of flops that they had in that slot (ie. Eastwick, Ugly Betty, The Whole Truth, Off The Map). ABC even offered a free kindle download of the pilot script (http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...-users/102441/), as part of their promotion.

FOX has also gone out all stops with 970 seconds for X Factor USA and 810 seconds for The New Girl. NBC sitcoms Up All Night had 710 and Whitney had 570. CBS rookie shows Persons of Interest and Unforgettable had 450 and 410, respectively.

So, will Revenge break the Wednesday 10pm curse? Will The New Girl or Up All Night be new comedy hit?

Meanwhile, CW is premiering 90210 and Ringer (starring Sarah Michelle Gellar) tonight. NBC is also starting a new season of Parenthood tonight as well.

Meanwhile C21 Media is reporting that CSI: New York showrunner Pam Veasey is optimistic over Season 9 prospects. Season 8 has been cut from the usual 22 episodes to 18 episodes.

its not a good sign, personally if we are going to loose one CSI, I would rather it be Miami.

oh im just doing a survey on Red or Black?

First question, did I watch? obviously thats a no

Please let us know why you didn't watch Red or Black?

I wasn’t available to watch when the show was on
I heard bad things about it
I don’t watch ITV1

I watched something on another channel
I’ve never heard of this show
I tuned in but didn’t like the look of it
I’m not interested in game shows
Other: Syco acts were a turn off

my answers are bold

that was the last question, no chance to put the boot in
