I find Twitter trends meaningless with certain ratings. Show Me The Funny was trending worldwide for its first episode and was comprehensively beaten by New Tricks.

However tonight I think we'll find lots of people watched the 9/11 documentary on ITV. Some powerful stuff which I'm watching right now on ITV+1.

I know its two years away but I wonder if any UK broadcaster will pick up Cosmos which is the first science documentary to air on one of the big US networks in a long time. Think BBC Two is a possibility as is Channel 4 and we know stuff like the Wonders series are popular so it would be a good one for either channel to acquire.

Anyone know if the next Brian Cox's series Wonders of Life is going to be on BBC Two or transferring to BBC One?

I think it was always planned to air it in daytime, with that episode order. I don't think decision was taken recently.


From reading digiguide, it seems to be quite different to past series of the show, with the contestants having to do a lot more challenges than previous years.

I'd imagine Spooks will return on the Thursday on BBC ONE?
Could also be the same night US X-Factor launches on ITV2 - the days after Fox...

It would be interesting to see 5 News's ratings through the years considering it aired at 8.30pm, 7pm, 6pm, 5.30pm and 5pm. I think though it's generally attracted more viewers in the 5pm hour than at any point in primetime.

5 News usually shuts up shop now at 9pm (although sometimes airs at 10pm in the middle of a movie), but though it wouldn't count to primetime I think a 15-minute bulletin at 11pm would probably do quite well - just a brief late night catch up for people who were watching shows elsewhere at 10pm or didn't want to sit through a full bulletin.

Who Do You Think You Are? performed reasonably well on BBC One. Village S.O.S is the huge weak spot in the schedule for the channel. The One Show is still struggling to hit the heights of before.

After the superb figures of Tuesday, it's a case of back to earth with a bump for BBC Two. Natural World did ok and I guess Horizon held on to most of it's audience.

ITV1 had a better night with Lewis holding up and Emmerdale putting in a very good figure. Tonight performed reasonably well but it had little in way of opposition.

Channel 4 had a very good night between 8 and 10 with two strong figures. The extended editiion of 8 Out of 10 Cats performed ok for a basic repeat. Hollyoaks increased slightly on yesterday's figure.

The Beat Goes On is wasted in that late slot; as it's a new show it should've been given a chance. Celebrity Big Brother is maybe not as high as it should be for a live eviction show. Justin Lee Collins performed ok, but maybe should've got a higher figure considering the lead in.

The 9/11 documentary on ITV1 tonight was one of the best I have seen on the subject. It also trended on twitter. (but ratings wise that doesnt mean a lot really)

I think it definatly deserves 4.5 million plus, but its one of those topics that turns many people off, and there were many harrowing scenes. It was also a on bit long at 1 hour 45 minutes. I hope it gets a good rating.

The One Show is still a bit low but I will hold off full judgment to see if it can get back into the groove of things over the Autumn months. Village SOS seems to be doing quite poorly; I would imagine Channel 4's Location x 3 is attracting a similar audience in the same timeslot and thus denting it. The upcoming replacement Wednesday lineup of Waterloo Road and Planet Dinosaur sounds like a strong combo though.


Good solid results for ITV1. Lewis is one of their ideal summer repeats and is capable of respectable numbers like this. I wonder how some of the older detective dramas would do on repeats like Morse or Touch of Frost. I expect Frost is recent enough to do well.


Good solid lineup for Channel 4, one of their better nights in recent times. Location is an old regular staple still capable of pulling in very healthy audiences for the channel. Channel 5 did alright, but the 7pm news and Beat Goes On did horrendously.

Looking ahead to the weekend, and according to BBC weather it will be 26 degrees in SE on Saturday. The 7pm Doctor Who Vs Red Or Black contest is going to be heating up nicely!

Interesting Xtra Factor note - tomorrow and next Saturday it begins at 9:45pm, half an hour after the main show finishes. Looks like they've done this so Red or Black can pick up an extra half million or so by no one turning over to ITV2.

it might actually help it as the +1 viewing has really hit the Xtra Factor since it launched

5.5 million average audience for last night's ITV1 doc 9/11: Day That Changed the World from Brook Lapping.

And 1.5 million average audience for the return of #celebjuice on ITV2.

Is that the first time ITV1 has had 5.5m in the 9pm slot since Scott and Bailey? Brilliant figure for it, and definitely justified to move ITV News at Ten seeing as that figure will be until 10:45pm in the ratings. I suspect ITV News at Ten Fourty Five will probably beat the BBC News in the ratings for last night.

Seems like BBC held up against the stronger ITV opposition, Torchwood level week on week. Celebrity Big Brother solid against ITV2 as well, think Channel 5 will be pleased to see it remain above 2 million.

Do you have a 15-minute breakdown for ITV's 9/11 programme? 5.5m suggests that it started off quite high, I would be surprised if 5.5m stayed until the end.

Decent figure for a good documentary, and particularly as it seemed to have been a US documentary revoiced by a British narrator.

I assume the early airing was ITV's attempt to spoil whatever 9/11 offering the Beeb has lined up for the actual anniversary in ten days time?

Fair enough. I imagine the involvement of CBS's Smithsonian Channel in this programme helped in getting access to the major players though, with one notable absentee.

Possibly so although most are out of office now and probably have time to do these interviews. No Condolezza Rice either on this one, in addition to the absence of W.
