However if you consider that now all S4C output in Wales is in Welsh there are approximately 600k Welsh speakers in Wales. and then translate these viewing figures to those across the rest of the UK. (e.g. multiply by 100.)

How do those figures compare to Channel 4 and 5.

Tottenham Hotspur v Shamrock Rovers is live on Channel 5 on Thursday 29th September.

Channel 4 premieres X-Men Origins: Wolverine on Sunday 25th September - pitched partly against The X Factor from 6:50pm to 9pm.

I dont think beating C4 and C5 and having comparable results to BBC2 is that bad. When added to this the channel is targeted at the what 25% of Wales population i.e Welsh speakers or learners then the channel actually does very well, getting comparable results to ITV and BBC1. For example Pobol Y Cwm got a 16% share, if we take its targeted at 25% of Wales population, and extrapolate it to be aimed at 100% of Wales population it would have had a share of 64%, somthing ITV and BBC can only dream of for EE and Corrie on a normal Monday night.

S4C has a problem IMO that a lot of its programming is either a) repeats b) a load of crap c) Both. It shows programmes what I would describe as being true PSB, not like the BBC at all which is more like a commercial channel in its programming today.
Wedi 7- you think they couldnt make the One Show more boring, yet S4C managed it.
Pobol isnt as good as it was a few years back, but its still the cornerstone of S4Cs nightly programming.
Taro 9- a consumer affairs programme, but limited to things releated to Welsh speakers
Llwybr Yr Arfordir- essentaily a walking programme.
These dont exactly light up the roof tops in entartainment factor IMO.

A problem with S4C ratings is also with the accuracy of results with such a small sample used in Wales.

While I agree there are many many things wrong with S4C, its unfair to attack its viewing figures when in reality they arent that bad.”

I actually tend to agree with a lot of that. While considerably off topic, I am learning Welsh at the moment, building on the Welsh I learnt in school some decades ago.
S4C is a very different channel to even a couple of years ago, when it used to be a mix of Welsh shows and the best from Channel 4. But now it is very different, only showing Welsh shows, making it less appealing for non Welsh speakers.

Not sure Celebrity Masterchef has been forgiven yet for what they did last series to Masterchef (Basic meal, sob story from contestant, then John & Gregg in X-Factor style telling the chef "We have MADE a DECISION....you are THROUGH to the next round!").
If I remember right though, previous series have been about 15 episodes and everyone knew when they were on, whereas this time we're looking at Monday to Friday afternoons, a 30 minute catch-up on Friday, and another 60 minute catch-up on Saturday? What a mess.

Loose Women today had Carol Vorderman make her debut as anchorwoman after Kate Thornton and Zoe Tyler were dropped after the last series. Andrea McLean presented yesterday.

All the digital channels feature in the Top 10s section. For w/e 4th Sept (the most recent available figures) 4Music's best figure was 120,000 and Yesterday's was 333,000.

Exactly. I also think the 6.30pm start is an advantage for viewers who might not be back home in time for the 6pm bulletin, but have no interest in watching C4 or C5 News at 7pm.

P.S. Re: Big Brother. After those first few figures I think we're seriously looking at it going sub-1m at some point over the next few weeks - either in it's very tough Sunday slot or once The X Factor live shows kick in and presumably boosts The Xtra Factor further.

BTW, how is The Xtra Factor comparing to last year - Olly and Caroline are a million times better than Konnie.

And one more thing - tonight's Hollyoaks was absolutely superb so the First Look ratings should remain strong this week. Interesting though how it's the E4 episodes rather than the C4 episodes which really seem to benefit when the show has a good run.

Apparently Big Brother is partly clashing against The X Factor on Saturday 24th September. With Saturdays usually being the lowest rated episode of the week anyway, BB could be below 1m (or really close to the 1m mark) that night.

That's interesting because if Outnumbered takes a week off for Strictly on Sep 30th then the series wouldn't finish until 14th October.

So that must mean one of the following:

1) Outnumbered will move to 8.30 on either Sept 30th or Oct 14th.

2) The final Outnumbered in this 6 part series is the Christmas one to be saved for December.

3) Would I Lie To You will take a week off on 14th Oct to fit in Outnumbered and HIGNFY.

4) Your information is wrong.

If DS is anything to go by, The Body Farm isn't going to be a hit like WTD - the reaction has been terrible. I have to say I gave up about 40 minutes in, it was just dull.

Terrific return for Doc Martin last night. That and Downton will be a lethal combination for ITV drama this Autumn. Very low for Dragons Den, but that's entirely BBC2's fault. What else did they expect when they decided to throw it around the schedules?

Yup it's a dud, a major disappointment after the hype. I feared the worst with it being shunted to Tuesday, and some dodgy weekend previews. Can see this struggling to hold 4m.

The trailer for the new series of Waterloo Road seems a bit meh compared to previous ones, nothing particularly outstanding being shown. Hopefully the actual show will be more exciting.

Interesting, especially as they would need STV, UTV and Channel to agree. Would be funny if Channel were able to veto the plan!

Ratings wise would be a big risk going head to head with the BBC though - it's not working at 10pm, so would it work at 6pm?

It was a real disappointment as I had high expectations of it. Alison Graham summed it up with her comparison to Bonekickers. I think it'll have done quite well tonight but within a few weeks I doubt there will be much between it and 71 Degrees North.

Yeah, the new Scottish head was clearly brought in for this series in anticipation of the move. On paper I agree it sounds ridiculous but I think we should wait and see what the writers and producers actually do with it before we completely dismiss it. BBC1 certainly seem very committed to it, with 50 further episodes (over 2 years) commissioned in addition to the batch of 20 that begins tomorrow.

Small sharks get jumped on a series basis on WR so I don't have any faith in the WR writers and producers in coming up with something believable.

The long runs are damaging the show because it is causing high cast turnover. Half the cast seem to only stay one series thesedays.
