I don't like where I live (the area or the flat) and I can't find anywhere better that I can afford... but mostly it's the severe lack of friends

I was saying on FB that this time last year I lived with my best friends in a fantastic flat in a good location but I was stressing over not being able to find a job when I graduated... now my problems are the exact opposite!

Paul your flat is really nice! How come you don't like it any more? I know what you mean about the friends stuff though; it's a tricky one if everyone's moved to different places. I suppose the job's not forever as well and you can always be looking in other places. Is there stuff you can get involved in where you could meet new people? Easier said than done I know!

My flat is deceiving. It's superficially nice but after living here for 5 months, I can just see all the flaws. My room is like a prison cell with its tiny window that lets in no daylight (I'm only realising this now because the days are getting longer). The whole building just seems to have been built on the cheap. But the main issue is the area. There's nothing around here at all. I can't really afford city centre and all the nice areas are too far from work that my already long commute would be even longer. I just don't know what to do

As for the friend situation, I just don't know how to meet people. It was so easy when I was at uni. The real world is miserable
