help with sony home cinema system please?
I bought the sony DAVS 550 system just over a year ago and from yesterday it is not playing DVDs at all ( I tried number of different DVDs and it comes with a error message "cant play disc"). I tried an audio CD and it played without any problems. I tried turning the system off for few hours and retrying but it is still the same. Any suggestions? It is just outside the 1year warranty and so I am not sure whether sony would do anything at all.
I tried turning off for a day or so and it still doesnt work. Thanks for the help in advance. siva I contacted sony who asked me to take it to a repair shop. The nearest one as per sony website seems to be Visual Fx in Romford but I never heard of them before and also unsure howmuch it would cost. |

Have you tried using a laser cleaning disc? A dirt lens can cause that particuliar error. (DVD playback is more prone to this problem) You can also spray a can compressed air into the optical drive to blow any dirt away; if you know what you're dong. (this is more effective) Always worth a try before take it in for repairs. |

Firstly, the 1 year guarantee is nonsense. The place you bought it from is liable for it for up to five years. Check out www.tradingstandards.gov.uk to find out about your rights.

Me too
There is no way you should pay for this as its a common problem, check out the DAVS 880 review o www.10goldstars.com.
It seems to be a problem with the whole series. |
