Pasta
Hi everyone. I have never posted in this forum before. I normally stick to GD or Advice but I didn't want to get told off for posting in the wrong forum so here goes . . .
I am cooking Pasta tonight with Dolmio sauce and I am doing it on my own as a surprise for my partner for when he gets home from work. But . . . This is the first time that I have done it on my own as the first time he was here with me and was able to take me through everything. But as it's a surprise I can't ask him how to do it so I need some help on how long it will roughly take to cook and how do I know when it is done?? Any quick advice will be VERY much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The sauce is already cooked, when it's hot it's done. That's it really.

Just follow the instructions on the pasta packet, taste a piece of the pasta to make sure its cooked. Heat Dolmio sauce through then mix in together. Et Voila.

Sorry if this makes your first trip to food & drink feel unfriendly but are you freaking kidding me???
![]() How old are you? I shouldn't, but ![]() Ladyinblue, it should say on the packet of pasta and the jar of sauce how long it needs to be 'cooked' for. Under instructions for cooking |

Pasta will be soft and wobbly. Sauce will burn your fingers.

Bring a big pan of water to the boil.
Add two big pinches of salt. Add your pasta. It should say on the pack how much in grams if you want to weigh it but I usually use a coffee cup full per portion (obviously this depends on your appetite and the size of your cups). Cook on simmer for about 10 minutes or until the pasta is cooked to your liking. Drain the pasta. You can either heat the sauce seperately or undercook the pasta and heat the pasta and sauce together and let them cook together for a few minutes until the sauce is heated through. |

Sometimes adding a splash of oil to the water stops the pasta sticking together

Can I ask what the Dolmio sauce is? Is it a bolognese sauce for example or just a pasta sauce.

And why don't you add a tin of tuna and some sweet corn and/or peas to the sauce and grate some kinda cheese on top while it's hot?
Still very simple but a much more interesting meal.

Oh, you're right, sorry just ignore me OP.
![]() Its just that pasta and sauce on its own would bore me to death!! OP. Put water in the pan, with a wee bit of salt. Heat until it goes bubbly, add the pasta and cook for about 12 minutes occasionally stirring. When the pasta is soft, drain the water off, add the sauce to the pasta in the pan, and heat through for a minute or two until it is all hot. |

Me too. Boring as hell.

Seriously Op, if you can cook pasta, jarred sauce is approximately 50 times easier to prepare. If you fcuk it up give up cooking, it's not for you.

I really don't get why people use Dolmio etc. That being said, I hope the OPs partner enjoys the "surprise". |

Exactly... in the time it takes to cook the pasta, you could sweat off a chopped onion and garlic, add some tinned tomatoes, some herbs (oregano, basil), seasoning etc. A miles better sauce than you get in a jar.
I really don't get why people use Dolmio etc. |
