Sony Tablets Info

There's some information about the forthcoming Sony tablets here:

They seem more than slightly overpriced to me but what do you folks think?

Too expensive.

Ouch, at those prices they must be rather opptomistic on the brand name pulling a lot of people in.

Once upon a time Sony were like Apple, a quasi-religion.

Then one too many cheaply made gadgets, design-over-function MP3 players and they are just another electronics manufacturer.

These tablets will not sell at £500, who would pay that sort of money and not buy an iPad?

It's like manufacturers think the tablet is a big draw, it isn't.

Been looking at these after reading about all the problems with the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet.
Anyone got one of these are care to give us some user feedback?

My OH got one when they were launched, and very nice it is too.

It runs Android 3.2, I wouldn't say, in use, that it is any better than the Asus Transformer, but it is smaller and lighter. It has a micro USB and full size SD card slots.

Oddly enough, out of the box, it won't play music, picture or movie files directly from the SD card, instead insisting that these be transferred to internal storage first, which is a pain. However we found an app that gets around that. This is important as the 16GB model only had 9GB free internal storage out of the box.

The other thing we don't like is that the charging lead has a laptop-like transformer (albeit smaller). The Asus has a wall-plug charger and the charging lead is USB - we use this charger for mobile phones, Kindles, iPods and tablets, why couldn't Sony use a USB charger?

There is a desk dock (which she doesn't have) which doubles as a charger and a stand to allow the tablet to be used as a photo viewer.

Being smaller and lighter it may be better than some others as an e-reader.

I do like the design, especially the wedge, and specs of the new Sony tablet - but not at that price

I looked at one in Currys. It looked really shiny and was covered in greasy fingerprints. Somehow they were a lot more obvious than on any of the other tablets. It doesn't look like a £500 device to me.
