Stock up on tinned tomatoes - 3 for 1
My local Tesco are selling 4 packs of La Romanella tinned plum and chopped tomatoes for £3.49 but it's buy 1 get 2 free.
I stocked up yesterday. I'll take a while to get through those 12 tins

I haven't tried the La Romanella tomatoes yet but it just seemed like a good deal.
I usually buy Napolina but have heard good things about ALDI tinned tomato and passata. San Marzano are supposed to be the best but i've never seen them around here. |

I buy mine in Lidl or Aldi by the dozenssss. They are very good quality and I use them lots - more so in winte,r as for now I still have fresh toms from le jardin. But fresh tomatoes I prefer to use them raw or stufed in the oven. For sauces, tins !
Somehow, I have never taken to passata

Somehow, I have never taken to passata ![]() ![]() In fact I am pretty particular about tomatoes in general. I am OK with raw tomatoes but once they are cooked they make me vom! I make lots of things that are tomato based but if I use tinned tomates I pick out any 'lumps' so it just made sense to start using passata! |

So small cartons would be good.

Is this Tesco or Aldi, just wasn't sure if you were replying to the original post or the one about Aldi. If it is Aldi is it nice? I have often thought of trying Aldi after comments on here but the one near me looks a mess and I just give up trying to find things
![]() I am with you, I am not a fan of lumps of tomato, although I have gotten used to it. And I cook them for slightly longer and reduce them down more. But I also don't like bits of tomato skins, I don't know why but the texture on my tongue makes me feel ill ![]() So I have been looking at passata but I eat for one so I don't need much and these big jars when up wasted. So small cartons would be good.![]() Although I don't feel too bad about wasting it (if I spend over £1 on a jar then I loathe to throw any away

If you want a less lumpy sauce then I just use a masher to break down the tomatoes. If I have a big batch then I use my hand blender but it's a faff on and easier to use the masher for small amounts.

I've just looked up the prices and Napolina are £1.35 a tin and value are 33p a tin so even if these La Romanella tomatoes are not as good as Napolina you're still getting them for 29p per tin.

Another vote for aldi passata, we go through A LOT of it.
Also indian grocers are a good source for canned tomatoes. Natco brand are pretty good and you should be able to get 4 cans for a quid. |

Having read nasty things about tinned tomatoes and slavery on farms in Italy, it is best not to buy them.
Organic tends to be better but you still don't know if slavery is involved. http://www.theecologist.org/News/new...ted_to_uk.html |

Unfortuantely, how food gets to my plate doesn't concern me, so I will be buying them.
At the moment tinned tomatoes are very unethical. |

It should. If people are forced to live in squalid conditions and not have electricity or clean water and work for tuppence, then there is a fundamental issue of concern as to whether such atrocities should be allowed to continue.
