Best and Worst soap love triangles of all time
Well your basic love triangles seem to be the backbone of every soap, so what have been the best and worst over the years?
Some of the most classic and my favourites would be: The Kim/Dave/Frank (and I suppose you can add Kathy to the mix) love triangle in Emmerdale. Genuinely gripping, wonderful actors and characters involved, went on for ages without becoming tiresome as it always involved something exiciting and with several big climaxes which also lead to other things. Emmerdale have never bettered it. Raquel/Des/Tanya in Corrie. Again, great characters and acting, Sarah Lancashire really proved she was a top actress here, and Tanya must be one of the most memorable short-lived characters ever. A right spiteful bitch that Tracy Barlow couldn't even hope to match, especially with the acting. Sharongate in EE . Grant playing the tape of her and Phil in the Vic must go down as one of EE's most memorable moments ever. Really exciting to watch and some great stuff with Phil/Grant later on. Plus if I'm not mistaken, somehow lead to the introduction of Peggy, though I could be wrong. |

Probably my classic one is Ken/Deidire/Mike in Corrie - it was huge at the time, and the first one I remember. Also, I liked the fact the fallout went on for years, its only in the last couple of years that Ken and Mike, previously best mates before the affair, have been on speaking terms again.
Sharongate was great as well. The way the affair was over, but was also a ticking bomb in the background for ages, the build up with Grant listening to the tape, with Sharon saying how much she loved him, his devestation on hearing about the affair, the playing of the tape in the Vic -all classic, brilliantly written and acted stuff. It did lead to the introduction of Barbara Windsor as Peggy - she visited Phil in the hospital. Previously Peggy had been seen on screen, during Ricky and Sam's elopement, played by a completely different actress - with very little resemblance to Babs. |

I can't really think of any others, I think Kevin's affair with Natalie Horrocks was good, but then after that the Websters disintergrated into what was basically a pointless family, and Sally having some very unpopular relationships. |

For me, its the Sharon/Phil/Grant love triangle that stands out as the best.
As has already been said, the shadow of the affair hung over Sharon for months after it was over, ending up in the night down the Vic where Grant played the tape. |

Sharon Phil Grant and the playing of the tape in the Vic was classic EE at its best. It was so good. Remember Grant hearing the tape in his car and you were left wondering what will he do?? knowing he wouldn't leave it and then to play it in the Vic. So good.
Liked the Mike Linda Mark triangle in Corrie too, not nearly as good but interesting none the less. |

Yeh the Frank/Peggy/Pat was quite cringeworthy wasn't it, especially with Frank's standing in the nip at Pat's door with a spinning bow tie lol Although that said, it did lead to one of the best episodes of EastEnders with FrankPatGate, the part where Peggy stood behind the bar with Frank an Pat on either side of her as she read the letter to a packed Vic was class. And then she slaps the pair of them, it was great. Also in that episode we had Roy's best line ever in EastEnders "blah blah blah...and I hate those earrings! they're cheap an tacky!" lol
But the soap love triangle to my mind was Sharongate, the nervous feeling ye got when Grant started listening to that tape, all lovely things at first but you just knew at some point they would start talking about Sharon sleeping with Phil. The fallout was brilliant aswell and also lead to the introduction of a classic EE character, Peggy. Most recently though, I think Sarah/Todd/Karl was the best one, highly dramatic, well acted, well written and some classic Corrie comedy in there aswell. |

Well Tanya is just starting out her bitchy ways on old the episodes of Corrie currently being shown Granada Plus - so you can see it all over again.
I suppose another good triangle was Grant/Tiff/Louise because it led to Martines wonderful exit on New Years Eve. |

Corrie has got to be the Mike/Deidre/Ken one. At the time it was SO huge that they flashed up who Deidre chose at football grounds.
Eastenders has got to be the Phil/Grant/Sharon one. The worse, most cringeworthy has got to be Frank/Pat/Roy. |

Oh yes Tiff/Grant/Louise was also class, which led to an even better storyline for Tiffany, sadly resulting in her exit. How great were them two weeks leading up to Christmas 1998, she finds out about his affair, she leaves him, tries to take Courteny, he knocks/she falls? down the stairs, she's in hospital, she gets out, frames Grant for trying to kill her, New Years Eve she tries to run off again, Grant gets out just in the nick of time to stop her, grabs the baby, she runs after him screaming, an BANG! she's lying dead in the Square. Fantastic.
One of the more boring ones I can think of is Mark/Ruth/Conor in EastEnders. Also Mary/Joe/Sarah also EastEnders. And for a while Beppe/Tiffany/Grant, not quite as explosive as Tiffany/Grant/Louise, although Beppe did try an make sure Grant got sent dahn! which obviously didn't happen. And a more recent one from EastEnders, Barry/Nat/Ricky. And another boring one, also from the Square, which was more an incident rather than a storyline, Sonia/Jamie/Zoe |

Perhaps one of the most boring was Rebecca (now Kayyyyte in EE)/Marrrrrrtin/Gail in Corrie. The only interesting factor in that whole "affair", was that the culmination of the storyline was Sarah's pregnancy at 13.
Oh and it paved the way for the arrival of Richard Hillman. |

Oh i forgot worse ones.
I seem to remember Arthur's affair with that woman in EE being terrible, apart from the frying pan incident lol (unless that was for something else, I can't remember). Lynne's affair with that Jason bloke in EE and then Beppe (or was that before? In fact did she even sleep with him?) were both utter rubbish. The Katie/Robert/Andy triangle in Emmerdale was abysmal until the actual climax when they found out and it lead to Jack being shot. That was all good, but otherwise the story just seemed stupid, repetitive and dragged on for months... Sally's affair with Danny in Corrie was dull as you can get. Pointless, and the characters had been there before. |

Worst - Anyone remember back to the love triangle between the twin sisters and a guy in Neighbours, that went on for ages as I remember it, pretty stupid too.
