I've never liked this. The 'comedy' relies on such a tired idea: middle-class parents with 'smart, quirky' kids.

It should have been retired years ago.

He was also in The Booze Cruise series, with Booze Cruise 3 shown only recently. Funnilly enough it was about a party travelling in the same car to scatter a grandmother's ashes on the moors.

Anyway, back to the programme. I thought it was very good and actually better than most of the old episodes.

That pretty much sums up what there is round here. (I live a couple of miles from where the series were filmed.)

For the record, I've never liked Eastenders and Coronation Street, far too much reliance on a tired working class idea of people shouting at each other in the pub. Should have been retired years ago.

Oh no scrap that, I just remembered my TV came with a remote and I don't need every TV programme to be made with me in mind.

Karen didn't behave as the other FM said anyway.
She had her head in her phone but was still interacting with her family and watching what was going on around her.

I think that is part of the "charm" though...

Middle class parents being "outnumbered" by their kids and getting into all sorts of mess.

And as said above the image fits in with the general population around where the programme is based.

Not all programmes can be about the same sort of generation/group etc.

Fair play to Karen. She'd given up a get-together with her friends to join her family in scattering her Grandad's ashes. Albeit that she could still join in the get-together thanks to modern technology.

There was very little about the kids thwarting the plans of the parents in this episode. Ben crashed the car but that seemed pretty incidental to the prolonged scene in the pub and the WW2 re-enactment seemed far too contrived. Karen and Ben played good parts but Jake seemed detached both as an actor and as a character.

I liked it. Interesting seeing how the children have the same basic character traits we saw in them when they were very much younger.

Oh it was a comedy? I thought it was a Party Political Broadcast. Tuned off, I don't need any more manipulation from tv programmes.

What made you think that?

Brexit references - although the joke was that they didn't want politics in the bar.

So is the poster suggesting that no show is allowed to make even passing references to events that happened here this year?

Could have been deliberate, Theoretically they wrote him out of any future episodes at the end

The daughter seems rebellious, there could be more episodes if they went down a shock teenage pregnancy plot line. If she had twins it could all start over again.

Its different now the kids are grown, it couldn't possibly have the same charm factor and I expected to switch off after ten minutes -but it kept me interested all the way through. I think there is probably still scope for a few more specials.

It's interesting to see how the kids have grown and changed. On its own, the programme wouldn't be that great, but as a glimpse of the current situation of a family we 'grew up with', it's interesting.

I don't think a new series would work, but the odd 'special' would be nice. However, I presume the actors who play the kids will start to drift off in other directions so an annual catch up wouldn't be practical.

My Family (the sit-com) did that.

I wonder what they're all doing on the acting front. I think Tyger (Jake) is still doing some acting bits while Ramona (Karen) and Daniel (Ben) seem to be doing other things.

Lack of communication can provide great plot twists, and lack of communication as the object of comedy can work brilliantly well in farce - but this is just irritating.

I counted three 'Trump' references, complete with horrified sighing.

I suppose we should count ourselves lucky that not a series of "Farage" mentions, the Luvvies think it is hilarious to just say the name.

I don't think this works any more. The appeal for me was the young kids and the things they said. Now they are all teenagers I don't enjoy it.

Just because some families comprise ignorant, alcoholic parents and spliff-smoking hoodie-wearing kids living in a high-rise block on a council estate, it doesn't mean every sitcom has to portray them. I would suggest that for a very high percentage of viewers, the Outnumbered family is actually far closer to reality. I don't think Tyger Drew Honey was ever a great actor anyway, but Mark Benton nearly stole the show in this episode.
