I don't like the way they've changed Pete from hapless to downright stupid and lazy. It's hard to have sympathy for a man who, despite having 3 kids to support, walks out on his job on a point of principle, expects his wife to go back to work fulltime to make up for it, and then sits around at the weekend leaving all the housework to her.

Jake and Ben are hilarious tonight.

I love Archie giving Karen "the eyes".

It's a bit worrying when the most impressive thing abiout an episode is how well trained the dog is.

Karen does seem a bit young for a 9 year old though - especially since she was so precocious at 5/6 (do 9 year olds really think it only takes 5 weeks to become a heart surgeon...).”

Wow! I didn't realise Ben is now meant to be the same age as Jake was in the first episode! He certainly doesn't act it. As others have said, he still seems stuck in that "little-boy" phase.

That's just your opinion. I enjoyed tonight's episode and thought it was the best so far this series.

If you're in Scotland it's on at 10.35.

One's an eldest child, one's a middle child. Don't you know anything about child behaviour? They've done studies, you know.

Brilliant quote from Karen: "I don't eat anything orange - except oranges because they admit that they are orange"

Ben was hilarious at camp as well.

I wonder if Tyger Drew-Honey knew about "Subbuteo" before they filmed that episode?

Also, Mr Henderson (the dog owner) was played by Phil Nice. Is that the same Phil Nice who used to be a comedian? I was shocked that he looks much older than he was when he was a famous comedian 25 years ago. Reminds me of how old I'm getting.

Did he look 25 years older?

Last night's episode was so similar to a 2.4 Children episode of 20 years ago I'd swear Andy Hamilton was grave robbing plot lines.

Dog sitting for a friend with hilarious consequences
Mother feeling abandoned and sidelined now children are out with friends most evenings
Witless husband content to play games from his childhood.

Fancy looking older than you did 25 years ago, go figure.

Well yes, obviously, just as your opinion is your opinion. My opinion is that while I still enjoy it, this series isn't really doing it for me. And I was genuinely impressed that they could train a dog to sit there and ignore so many instructions so well.

I thought it v. funny last night but the dog really was the star.

I wanted more Karen and Sue last night. I am loving their Mum/daughter commentary on life. The orange line was wonderful.

In contrast, I'm finding Ben very sameish each week. The telephone call to his Dad was great, but you know that they will extend the joke of Ben being irritating and un self aware just too far.

Too much time on the dog - lovely dog, though.

Still a great show

Phil used to be in a double act with Arthur Smith. Smith's regularly been on telly since so I suppose its not so shocking to see him 25 years on - but he does also, like Phil, look quite weather beaten now.

The best thing about last nights show was that it was mostly a Ben free zone. He ruins the show for me and always has. Not one in all the series has he made me laugh. He simply makes me cringe. Last nights show was definetly an improvement on the others.

Does anyone know or have any ideas over what Jake's secret will be?

I thought the whole point was that he's not lying - it's just that mum can't stop checking up on him. He was at the friend's house when mum made dad call.

Maybe I wasn't in the right mood but I didn't think last nights was as good as last weeks. Granted it was better than the series opener but I just found it disappointing for some reason. Also I found Ben quite irritating for the first time last night - not sure why. Was still pretty funny though.

I also think Jake's secret will be him having a girlfriend. Could be wrong though....

It's never going to be as good as the first two series - the kids have grown up and don't have that "cute" appeal anymore ....and Ben has gone from an oddball to just being plain annoying and irritating.....the bits he was in just made me cringe

Think you must be merging a few episodes together there, the one when they dog sat for a farting labrador (Bedtime for Bonzo), the husband was in bed with flu and the mother feeling abandoned issue wasn't in this one either.
