She hasn't really promoted properly in the UK.

Airplay for the singles has been terrible.

I think if Britney was really bothered about succeeding in the UK she would have promoted but I think she is happy doing what she is doing. She seems in a much better place now, and happy with her family life. Making music is just a bonus for her now, and her fanbase has already been made.

It's a shame as I Wanna Go is a great song! I wonder is it because she's not as popular as she used to be now that the likes of Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga (who I am also a fan of) have taken over?

I honestly wouldn't class it as a takeover as such. It's just those women you've mentioned have done lot's of promotion with their respective albums and singles and kept themselves fresh in the minds of the UK public so they already have a better chance of doing well. Britney's UK promotion has been poor so she was bound to do less well from the start sooner or later, which is a shame because I Wanna Go is my favourite single from Femme Fatale.

Unless she does a promo-tour with the 4th single and tries and re-releases Femme Fatale, the era is pretty much dead here.

Airplay seems to be another problem, all those women you've mentioned have had loads of it straight from the off, especially Katy Perry. Britney's had alarmingly little.

No offense but I am truly tired of this discussions. There hasn't really been a thread about this, but we've been discussing about Britney underperforming since HIAM debuting out of the top 5 and that was back in January .Can we just leave it???
Britney is in the most awkward time of her career:First of all, during the start of the era, her label announced that it was about to shut down, so F.A.M.E. and Femme Fatale were probably 2 of the last mainstream albums that they released. That means that Britney had no label support.Secondly, the tour set off very soon and that didn't give her any time to properly launch the 3rd single. She has been rehearsing since the TTWE video.Thirdly, the tour was so rushed (for the label to get their money) that she hasn't found a healthy way to find her performing skills again and while she's notably slicker, she is still not 2001-2004 Britney, so she's yet to get back a number of fans. Finally, in spite of all those issues, she is still slaying in the US, which is the biggest market and while in other territories she is not doing as well as she did with 'Circus' she is still succeeding there with every release. So, aren't all these problems enough to justify struggling in ONE territory???

Maybe people wouldnt be as worried if the territory in question was Kenya, but the UK is a big musical territory and she's really missing out by not trying to get any success here.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but the UK has been losing its power in the music market for a long time and it's not one of the biggest 3 markets anymore for music related items.Case, point, example acts like Cher Lloyd, JLS, The Wanted, Cheryl Cole and even Girls Aloud failing to have any noteworthy success in any other territory.I think that all the issues I mentioned are more than adequate to explain a struggle in a market like the UK.Britney never had much success in the UK anyway, so I don't know why everyone is obsessing over it.When she gets enough practice, support and budget she will promote there but until then I think people should understand that underperforming in one territory is not that much of a big deal unless it's the US.

I tend to agree with you their except for Baby One More Time she hasn't even topped the 500k mark sales wise Her albums have never done that well either she's never had a number one album over here and none have sold spectculary so I don't know why people are stressing over Femme Fatale not doing well, her albums normally drop like a stone anyway

she's on tour, she cant be in the UK and the rest of the world at the same time.

she's shifting enough albums and singles globally to keep her record company happy and to have an 8th album so why would she care about charting higher in the UK when shes top 10 in the US with I Wanna Go

Airplay for the singles has been terrible.
the airplay for `hold it against me` was strong. however, `till the world ends` was rush released, when radio was still playing the first single. i haven't heard `i wanna go` on the radio at all.

although, her videos have being played on the music channels. i do believe that airplay is a big factor. also, uk promotion could have helped.

Britney used to have massive success in the uk, 6 platinum albums, sell out tours and plenty of top ten hits (5 number ones), thats hardly unsuccessful. But i see your point, although having said that, I was in France a couple of weeks ago and i heard swagger jagger and glad you came on the radio.

The X Factor performance killed her UK career.

As much as I liked her Femme Fatale album, it could have been released by anyone. She doesn't really stand out anymore.

I tell you exactly what it is...

There has been no radio airplay and hardly any tv airplay.

How can she be successful if none of the media supports her. There is too much snobbery in the UK now, bigging up the likes of Duffy, Kate Nash and Lily Allen and where the f**k are they now?

You know what really pisses me off is that Britney has been around for 12 years and the UK doesn't even applaud that, they applaud the likes of Duffy who has 1 hit and say shes the next best thing, the next thing shes in the dole, then the radio dont know where to put their faces.

Personally i think the UK cant wait to see the back of her. I think its unfortunate as her new album has been her peak in terms of music. Her performances have improved and were seeing glimpses of old Britney.

As fans, we should all be happy. As long as shes successful overseas, i dont care anymore.

Rant over. lol
