"Surely, women like me have to be deluded to wax ourselves so that we resemble an adolescent: Madonna is both victim and perpetrator, as am I.

Just as anorexia assaults the most susceptible young women, the ones with low self-esteem who do not live in a bubble of love and family support, a desire to look young assaults those of us who feel we are not ready to grow old.

I’m a case in point. I don’t have a stable, loving relationship, I don’t have children, I am not where I want to be in my career, and so I feel my body is racing ahead of me. I need more time."

She's broke, didn't you know? But no doubt she'll scrape together the 26,000 (sorry, no pound sign on my keyboard) or whatever it costs somehow.

My god Liz must be wetting herself with excitement today..the MoS' letters page is practically dedicated to her.."Is there anyone Liz Jones hasn't insulted now?"

Mainly moaning about her bizarre rant last Sunday. 4 letters against, 1 for (probably commissioned by LJ herself )

One of the letters suggests Liz should "write fiction" ... Er..

According to her article today, she is about to become homeless. She blames the Banks for her financial dilemma; she is selling her £1 million house on which she has an interest only mortage and wants to take out a £200,000 replayment mortgage.

The Banks are being obstructive (according to her) and insist on seeing evidence of savings. Liz claims that this is totally unreasonable (!) and that Banks are out to get people like her because she is not one of the rich. (I wonder in that case why she bought a £1 million house.)

Will Daily Mail readers offer to take her in? What is going to happen to her animals?

Yet Liz ALWAYS has money to afford her designer clothes. Can we have one article where she doesn't mention her "£800 Prada jacket" or "£400 Chanel shirt."

The pack of animals seem to lessen and expand each week. I'm not even sure she really has any these days. Now RS is back on the scene (although she can't talk about him ) why doesn't he offer to take her animals in? He seems to have plenty of money after all.

No need - according to Nic's Facebook page they're moving, with ALL the animals, to a new place in the Swale valley just outside Richmond, North Yorkshire... conveniently, where her partner in Good Food Nation Isobel Davies has an ethical fashion business.

Homeless my arse.

The same Isobel featured extensively in Ade Edmonson's The Dales. Not Lizard, just her friend Isobel. Coincidentally there have been several very nasty shrewish barbs at Edmonson lately, as if here were a male Kirstie Allsopp or something.

Well it has to be said that the bickering on the comments of the Diary today have been quite hilarious!

I'm curious as to where all these "supporters" have suddenly emerged from...

Once again she recycles the Bridget Jones line "I'm just too busy and important." ...but without a fraction of Bridget's charm. Once again we hear her bleating about the UNFAIRNESS of being expected to pay off her million pound mortgage! How BEASTLY these people are! How can they be so mean to her?

And as always she attempts to lace her rants with details that are presumably intended to be cute and cuddly: she chose her bank because her dad had always banked there and they have nice pictures on the cheques...are we all supposed to think "Aww, bless her, she's so sweet and ditsy and childlike?" In a column about (supposedly) grown-up issues and grown-up financial problems, this sort of thing really grates.

...And once again the dialogue with FRS is painfully stilted and unconvincing: "I am coming home." "I will meet you in the hotel"...Liz, real people don't talk like this! People say "I'm" and "I'll". (Oh, and incidentally, real people don't call their fiftysomething partner "Darling girl" either.)

...As for her claim that "the disinvitation meant my rent bounced"...how does that work? Surely it was buying the flight ticket in the first place that caused the rent to bounce, not being "disinvited"? Have I understood correctly that she paid for a £5,000 flight to Australia and then didn't go, despite (a) being broke and (b) having recently claimed she couldn't afford to go and see the seriously ill nephew? Blimey, the word "broke" obviously means something different on Planet Liz.

Has she simply decided to abandon the storyline about the rumours of another woman? She seems to pick up the RS story at random and throw in little snippets between all the sick animals stuff, apparently forgetting where she left it last time. What was the outcome of the "he's such a shagger" episode?

Exactly. Homeless my arse. According to rumour she is indeed moving to North Yorkshire, probably about 10 miles from Richmond.
I guess another move = more column fodder? Let's face it, she has little else to write about.

Bet the good folk of N.Yorks can't wait to meet their new neighbour!

Noooooooooooooooooo! Don't send her here. North Yorkshire can manage quite nicely without her, thank you!

Yes, lots of previously unheard of 'supporters' of Liz in the You comments this week and not one ounce of sense from any of them. Basically, "Leave Liz alone, it doesn't matter if it's not true, she loves animals, you're all horrible". I have no problem with genuine supporters of Liz giving as good as they get, but they never, ever say why they find her so wonderful, and why it's ok for someone who is paid a fortune to pass off fiction as fact, and don't they read any of her other bitter and twisted articles. The tone of supporters' messages are always very childlike and naive, that's fine but at least, present a proper arguement for why we have all so missunderstood her for all these years.

I see what you both mean ... and wonder whether LJ's long-suffering employee Nic has internet access?

Update on charity fund grand total of £911 - quite a few anonymous donations and comments about how they love her columns ...one most recent donation comments on how the charity has just done an email campaign hence LJ will find it difficult to reach her total. Not that it's planted to save face for her.....much

There are plenty of readers who simply enjoy Ms Jones columns and take it all with a pinch of salt. They probably don't care enough one way or another to consider them anything other than a bit of light - albeit obviously cheekily provocative at times - reading over breakfast. Others profess to find her obnoxious yet read her column avidly every week, trawl through all the comments then take the time to post their negative views. Over and over again.
I'm sure both Ms Jones & the MOS are very happy with the controversy she continues to attract..

Liz is a construct who spews hatred, bile and spite and thereby appeals to the equally twisted readers of the Mail who love getting a few kicks at the under dog. I really don't understand how anyone can 'enjoy' her sad, little victim mentality and faux Sex In The City derived scribblings.

What people object to is that she swerves wildly in her opinions. Littlejohn and Moir et al seem to maintain a general vileness while Liz bounces between hating everyone who's not her and wanting to be everyone who's not her.

exactly what Minette said - also, it annoys me that she gets paid a sh*tload of dosh to recycle articles, the FRS - ok if we knew this was fiction then fair enough, but he's also been mentioned in her mainstream articles too, so she's conning her readers...how about using "special needs" and "autistic" as a term of insult? how can ANYONE think this is acceptable? I wish her "fans" would answer that one, but they never do. I could go on and on about this nasty harridan....

so, Astor & Ginny...do YOU think it's perfectly ok to insult people using "special needs/autistic" ? I genuinely would love to hear your views on that...

Exactly.
This is what grates on me. The Diary column started life as a diary, of sorts. OK, we knew Liz probably changed names and situations slightly but it was based on reality. Nirpal was/is a real person.
The Diary slipped into fiction about 18 months ago, if I recall correctly, with the introduction of the RS boyfriend and the poverty stories. It wasn't immediately clear that it had become fictitious and that was helped along by various supporters of Liz (or possibly employees?) popping up on forums such as Mumsnet, claiming to have seen Liz and the RS in various places.
The 'poverty' story was a disgrace - Liz's readers who were in genuine financial difficulty were identifying with her and sending her donations to feed the animals. Yet within a short space of time Liz appeared to be back in the money and mentioned buying houses (at least two houses) for other people!

The current storyline of 'I will be homeless' is yet more fiction. According to the rumour mill she's moving to North Yorkshire very soon and has been ready to move for weeks. Allegedly/so I have been told.

I couldn't care less about Liz Jones, but the fact that she continues to earn megabucks for churning out schoolgirl essays irritates me.
If the Mail issued a disclaimer stating that the Diary is not in fact a diary, but a fictitious column, would she maintain her readership and supporters?
And it spills over into her other articles in the Mail - the RS, her poverty, her homelessness are all mentioned in what are supposedly journalistic articles.
