Unfortunately not me. I hate FB.

I will only relent and re-join FB when or if I get a home PC again.

Currently I don't have one, and only have internet access eithere (a) at work, or (b) very occasional weekend visits to internet cafes.

That's enough for me -- well enough to keep up-to-date on the LJ and FRS saga ...... but not enough time online to keep up with the madness that is facebook

But good luck with the group

Liz Jones must be a troll or an awful character in a chicklit novel.

Her diary makes me cringe so bad and if RS does exist I hope it's a keyboard player in an unknown prog rock band.

FB request sent!!! Words fail me re today's nonsensical rambling from films, to Woman's Hour to women who have children purely to keep their husbands and get a year off work...

Even by LJ’s standards, the volte face about Ibiza…in one article an unmitigated disaster, blah, blah, blah, and then, steeled by a determination to enjoy herself (and with the opportunity to go Blackberry picking), actually it’s all sublime, blah, blah, blah…was startlingly peculiar, Too much to expect veracity, but surely someone at the DM keeps an eye on – edit, even - these deranged witterings to avoid such glaring inconsistencies and contradictions,

Quote from the Diary (my emboldened embellishment):

“…she’s Eurotrash. She probably wears Tod’s flats and a navy blazer with gold buttons. These people float through life, staying at this friend’s villa, this other friend’s yacht, while you and I have to stay in horrible hotels with soap dispensers and rubber nonslip bath mats…”

Is this an attempt to ‘empathise’ with earthlings?

And the film-critique-that-wasn’t was downright sharp-tongued and spiteful, quite apart from being the ramblings of someone who has clearly lost the plot.

Oh, well, I must unpack after mini break w/end with George Clooney.

The 'Eurotrash' comment was a new low. If all this is true then it is Liz who is the 'other woman', and some innocent lady is not only being cheated on but is being vilified and humiliated in a national newspaper and website. IF the identity of the RS is revealed, so will his former girlfriend's identity. Without wanting to be too PC, would Liz (and the MoS) have thought it acceptable to use the terms 'Asiantrash' or 'Africantrash', etc, to describe this woman if her nationality were different?

That's exactly what I thought when I read Liz's bitchy comments about the girlfriend. It's interesting how insulting she becomes when faced with a rival. All her vitriol is heaped upon the other woman (which is particulrly rich this time around because, as you say, the girlfriend is the one being cheated on), and she starts making her usual wild and unfounded "I bet she's....." jibes.

I thought the comment "She can read, can she?" spoke volumes about Liz's muddled attitude. What does it mean? That she automatically assumes any woman who's involved with the same man as herself must be dim and stupid?

I don't know which would be worse. Being the girlfriend of a RS and being two timed by an ageing weirdo and insulted publicly by her or having said ageing weirdo imagining that she is going out with youre boyfriend and still insulting you in public.

I don't know about anyone else, but if I found out that my partner had another girlfriend (and long before I came on the scene) I would drop him immediately, feel humiliated and very sorry for his original girlfriend. So Liz has just accepted the fact that RS has lied to her and this other woman (and probably still lying to both of them) but chooses to vent her anger at the one person who is genuinely innocent in this ridiculous pantomime. Yes, we know the whole story is a pack of lies, but she is getting paid a fortune for writing it and by implicating a real RS and his partner is this fantasy. And if the story is true then they all need to be tested for STDs. Very, very, grubby behaviour.

It has all gotten more than a little distastful with the latest diary entry.

LJ has to be aware of the internet (and media) speculation as to who the RS is and must know the front runner. So, if RS is real, to discuss the 'rival' in the diary is dragging an innocent party into all of this. If (as I think we mostly all think) the RS is a figment of her imagination, then that is two innocent people dragged in and a real relationship under suspicion.

I think she saw JK was still with his g/f and because she has made it so obvious who she has pretended to date, she has had to 'tell more lies' to cover up in the same way she lied about the pony at school. Only this time it is being published in a national paper and talked about on the internet, so she is not just hurting herself.

That was the point where she really should have stopped the lies. Or named the RS.

Um ... I don't think we're really meant to be taking everything LJ writes as actually true, you know! Yes, Liz is a real person with a real history - some of it anyway - but I'm pretty sure she doesn't really expect her readers to believe everything she writes. I've always assumed she writes a mixture of reality and fantasy (truth and lies, to be more blunt) and that she deliberately says things that she knows will get people's backs up and get them talking about her. And she's succeeded - proof right here!

People ARE fascinated by other people's lives, Liz is clever enough to know that, but she also seems to know that unless she has something going on in her life - mysterious boyfriend, travel complaints, money troubles, lovely house she can't sell - people won't have the same compulsion to read what she writes ... and so she 'embroiders' to make her life more interesting. It appears to work, she irritates people who then keep on reading what she writes, she uses the same formula that tv soaps do, ie people want to know 'What happens next?'. And so she stays in work and earns a nice little income and can continue to do so for as long as she likes - very clever woman!

Had another lightbulb moment: the post Somalia Ibiz 'holiday' with the FRS.

FRS said "I’ve only got a one-week break from gigs"
Liz was in Africa the first week of August and (allegedly) in Ibiza on or around the 13th.
No new Wail articles between the 1st and the 13th. Here's part of the Simple minds tour schedule for this summer:

30/07/11 INEC, Killarney, Ireland
[one week break, LJ in Somalia]
06/08/11 Rock the Rock Festival, Gibraltar, GB, Iberia
[four day break]
11/08/11 Les nuits musicales de Maîche, FR
12/08/11 Festival du Chant de Marin, Paimpol, FR
13/08/11 Fête du Bruit dans Landerneau, FR
[four day break]
18/08/11 Belgrade Beer Fest, Belgrade, RS

Also, she rented a villa in Ibiza before - in 2009. In August, oddly enough. Say what you like about wor Luzzie, she certainly does her bit for recycling.

Of course we know most of it's pure fantasy. This is what annoys me:

- she gets paid stupid money for lying in public, writing very poor articles...

- she routinely says very nasty things about various groups...

- her attitude towards her mother (and men, and children, and mothers, and the NHS) can only be described as vile.

I don't think anyone here believes a word out of her mouth - but some people do.

Are we to believe the pensioners sending her money was true? Or was that a lie?

Is she in penury? Or does she have funds for a London pad and extensive renovations to her house? Which is the lie?

Was the Ibiza holiday hell or heaven? Seems to have been both.

Is she dating a 'Rock Star' and draging his innocent gf into her sordid diary or is that a lie? If it is a lie, should she not make it clear so people will stop speculating about who the RS and his 'Eurotrash' gf are?

Does she mean all the vile, bitchy down right nasty things she says? Or is that the lie?

If she did all the above with some style and flair, some small sliver of writing talent, it might almost be forgivable. But she is a talentless parody of a journalist/diarist these days.

Yes, she gets the hits for the Daily Mail. But for all the wrong reasons. And while the Mail might not have the highest of standings, she is damaging what little integrity they do have by insulting the intelligence of its readers and dragging innocents into her deranged ramblings.

Thank you for saying all of the above, with which I wholeheartedly concur.

Caveat something or another and a memo to LJ: Create a myth at your peril, as its very being lays the foundation for tripping you up. Plus moral compass (goodness knows where magnetic north is) has gone, credibility is in tatters and integrity is a boy band. And the writing is rubbish which is what really, really rankles. Fine: be funny/embroider things/lurch into the contentious...but do it with finesse, and have a stab at fun-making at yourself and your failings/frailties. That's just the Diary.
