I am in my fifties, but I clearly lead a very sheltered life here in Los Angeles. If a man desires a woman in her fifties (and mercifully some do . . . well, anyhow, mr. ccmc says he does) does he normally want her to have a Hollywood wax? Or a Brazilian? Maybe it's not just the hair on her head that's white and all evidence of that must vanish??

Anyone else find it strange that she has the RS calling her "Darling girl"? Apart from the unlikeliness of any grown man using this term at all, let alone to a woman in her 50s, it's exactly the sort of thing she has railed against in the past. IIRC, she objected to the Boots advert featuring the song "Here come the girls", because, she said, the "girls" in the advert were "clearly women."


Personally I'd find it rather creepy if I were in my early fifties and a partner addressed me as "Darling Girl."

As for her MoS column.....she really can't resist doing the cartoon foreign accent thing every single time, can she? ("eez" etc.)

Thank you ccmc - your comments always cheer me up! I am in my 60s and can say with some authority that her 'collar and cuffs' will probably match. And not to be too indelicate,a more mature woman's 'lady garden' does'nt need such a vigorous pruning! Although I think any man who prefers his partner to be as bald as an egg is a little odd. But not as odd as an invisible Rock Star...........

Ok so we have: xxxx xxx xxxx xxxx xx My guess was the first word was 'Shut' the second was 'the' and the last word was 'up' and I was pretty certain what the third unprintable word was but the extra four letter word has thrown me...

As much as I detest Lizard Jones I will spring to her defense over her speech impediment, she is almost deaf and that is why she has a "unique" voice.

Wow, I stand corrected. I think the first time I heard it talk was for the sperm stealing interview on This Morning.

The contrast between her hair and the other lady's hair was astounding - glossy chestnut locks verses Liz's dry, dull straw. Everything was better - complection, clothes, make up, diction, manners, argument. Not the thinest lady, but the word cuddly rather than any negative description spring to mind. And such a sparkle to her, a joie de vivre.

Where as Liz was all sly smiles and talking over people. And no conviction to her reasoning.

So the single mum manages to both look presentable and put forward a cohesive argument. Where as Liz can't.

She looks a right state - unbelieveable for someone whose life seems to revolve around clothes and appearance.

But for once I agree with the premise of Liz's argument - maternity pay and leave has become ridiculous and I too wouldn't employ a woman of child-bearing age (I'm not an employer though).
It's up to the individual to sort out their finances before becoming pregnant - not rely on the taxpayer to pick up the bill.
When I was pregnant 30 years ago, myself and most of my NHS colleagues returned to work six weeks after the birth - these days most seem to take a full year off and then request flexi-time when they return, which leaves the rest of us picking up the unsocial hours.
So I do sort of agree with Liz, but she put her argument across badly.

Asking people in normal jobs to save enough money to manage with one person off work and pay for a child is asking the near impossible, especially in this climate when no pay rises are happening and getting new jobs are difficult. In our case you'd be asking me to have saved up £18k to take a year off work at the same rate, or to have saved up £6k to pay what my mat pay gives me. Maternity pay is rightly no substitute for a full wage, the only mothers I know who took the full year after the pay ends (9 months) only did so because their partner earned enough to pay all the bills by themselves. If you are in an equal relationship and both equally contributing, then your income halves. We are only just keeping our heads above water with me on maternity pay at the moment so I will have to go back to work when he's 9 months old. Needs must I adore my son though and would do anything to make sure he is well cared for. Doesn't stop me feeling jealous of my friends who don't have to go back to work because of their partner in a highly paid job, even though I wouldn't be happy with the idea of someone else paying for me, I like to contribute financially to my household - just at the moment it's not much as I don't have much to give after rent and bills.

On the other hand I do sympathise with employers as it must be frustrating to have to sort out mat leave (or just not really bother, in the case of my work lol). I don't see a way around it though really?

I do disagree with Liz but I can appreciate a good case when put forward. Liz didn't do this. She seemed to think mothers owed her enormous gratitude for giving them a job and bringing them on to the point that they should make her & working for her the most important thing in their life, phoning and coming in while on maternity leave. She seemed to resent competing for attention with a baby.Any argument about maternity leave and SMP was minimal and entirely secondary to her moaning about new mum's lack of gratitude to her.

Did she smear lard all over her face before she went in front of the camera? Her face was ridiculously shiny and as for her bare, pasty legs Wouldn't the make-up department have made sure that her plate face was shine-free for the telly? Silly me, she would have shouted at the 'inexperienced' make-up girl and told her that she knew perfectly well how to do her own make-up.

Liz Jones is a most peculiar looking creature (of her own creation). I normally wouldn't care about someone's looks, but she makes such a fuss over her own and seems to think she's improved herself by doing it artificially. She hasn't, she's plain weird.
