So...I am feeling a bit low today so I decided to order in take away
I visited justeat.co.uk and was surprised at the choice available. I have 2 criticisms though.
1. The price. I ordered one can of juice, 1 pizza (10" chicken and garlic) and a portion of chips and cheese. I was hungry so I ended up ordering more than I was able to eat. Anyway, for pizza, chips and a can of juice it came to £10.20. How are people meant to manage financially with prices that extortionate? 2. The portion sizes. The chips was enough to serve 2-3 people and the pizza the minimum size available was 10". Portion sizes can have a very negative impact on health if they are not right. This isn't a criticism of this particular takeaway, but ALL of them. There should be a half portion size available if you tick a box or ask for it. One when ~I was out I went into a take away and asked for 2 pieces of chicken pakora with a TINY bit of salad & grated cheese. I had to buy the whole portion which had 5 bits, sauce etc and most of it went to waste. and it was nearly a FIVER Have you had any good / bad experiences with take aways? Should take aways be forced to offer healthier portions and foods? (ie; bananas, grapes, raw chopped carrot etc) |

Could this not go in either chatter or food?
Takeaways aren't meant to be cheap. Also, just-eat is just a portal, it has nothing to do with portion sizes or prices, you need to direct that to the takeaway you ordered from. |

10.20 for what you got is a very reasonable price. You have so much food there, its ridiculous. Quit your moaning.

As for portion size aspect - you don't have to eat it all. I don't like waste but if the portion is too big, throw some away, or give it to someone else. There's no law says you have to clear your plate - much as my mother would have liked there to have been!

I reckon 10 million of us in the UK have ordered/eaten takeaway, and, guess what, some of us didn't have an ideal experience.
What's refreshing is how many of us get over such downers and have a nice evening nevertheless, instead of bleating. |

I'm just tucking into my weekly fish and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce
It makes you feel a lot better when you're down in the dumps and depressed!

I felt a bit.. more "fed up" today. But I had a hug from my mum and that made me a bit better.
I am eating healthy tonight! Fish and veg. I hope to have a cheeky takeaway at some point though. Might not be until next week though. I am working awkward hours this week! |

!s this forum becoming a hangout for manic depressives?
![]() Can't people even talk about food without throwing in how down they are? I'm imagining hoards of DS users with tears streaming down their faces and sad violin music playing as they reply to any subject |

It just doesn't make sense as I always say I DON'T want salad or sauce when I order - all I want is a cheese slice and my own BBQ sauce from home

Regular box of fries from our local chicken takeaway is 70p. Have those once a week and I'm well happy.

I must admit that I find takeaway pizza ridiculously expensive for what they actually are, so much so that I can't remember the last time I had one. Besides, I've invented my own garlic-fest of a pizza which is far yummier!
Fish and chips is an occasional treat but that costs about £6 if I remember rightly. Chinese is another occasional treat costing around the same as a chippy. |

I would say that it is not the site Just-eat that set the prices, rather the individual takeaway shops. Around us the only takeaways that use the site are kebab shops (the ones that sell pizza and burgers etc.) so there really isn't much choice but if I look elsewhere there are probably more variety.
But saying that £10.20 isn't a bad price really for a 10" pizza and a portion of chips with cheese and a drink. Yes you could have probably made everything yourself cheaper but you are paying for the convenience of not cooking and having the food brought to you. So I am sorry but I can't really see much to complain about. The smallest size pizza from our kebab shops are around 7" and they are tiny

I live in a village where there's no deliveries so you lot are making me salivate in a most unattractive way.
So if anyone would like to deliver special fried rice, chicken chop suey and a pancake roll please feel free. |

To be fair I could get the same things there for around £5 from my local pizza place...anyway, with minimum delivery prices he probably would have ended up paying that amount from wherever he ordered from.
So if that is the prices of the OPs local kebab/pizza place then it is probably the average around there. You obviously live in an area where the takeaway food is very cheap. ![]() But can't really complain as the prices of these kebab/pizza shops are usually 3 or 4 times cheaper than the chained takeaways stores |

Nearest chippie, chinese and indian take away 8 miles. Nearest pizza place 9 miles.
Chances of delivery = zero |

I ordered a curry, chilli rice and starter online for £10.20, was watching the England game and couldn't be bothered to go out. Quick, efficient and easy

Hang on.
With regards to the OP, points 1 and 2 conflict. You say the prices are extortionate yet claim in point 2 that it's enough for 2 people. So, it's a fiver, which for a take out fill isn't that bad. So you're on you're own and can't eat it all - reheat what can be reheated the next day (pizza for example) and eat now what has to be eaten now (the chips or kebab). I'm a lazy guy who lives alone and order online using the site you mentioned amongst others. I'm 'fortunate' enough to live in an area with a lot of choice (something around 130 when I last put my postcode into the search), so the prices are stupidly low. This means that when I order I go for the meal deals and eat it over the next 2 or 3 days. For the £10 mentioned in the OP I could have 3 x 12" pizzas delivered free of charge - I can only imagine the horror and disgust the OP might feel at being able to order that. All in all, a pretty crap whinge really. Don't like the prices? Don't order. Too much for you to eat in one go? Eat it later or, refer to my earlier answer and, don't order. |
