Aww she was so sweet wasn't she! I was delighted that Sharon and Louis said yes to her. Hope she does well!

"Summertime, and the living is easy"... Ahh, Memories!

Heck, the woman has been entertaining 60 years now, for that alone I think they were right to stick her through to the next round.

Sorry to spoil your fun guys, but Renee didn't make the cut. We won't be seeing her in any live finals. I think she falls into the "Women preachers" category - like dogs walking on their hind legs, they don't do it terribly well, but you can't fail to be impressed that they can do it at all!

She's going to be loved by the country....A whole movement on how "age shouldn;t matter" will spring up (hey...it's true..age shouldn;t matter)....Renee will be releasing a single at Christmas as the winner of X Factor 1!!!!!

Thanks for spoiling that for us.

I think Renee would have been popular with the viewers (as she is with a lot of people on this thread), and it is a shame that she is not in the final cut. I don't imagine she would have gone all the way, but I think she would have been fun for a few heats.

Did you have to go and spoil that for everyone ?

And I'm equally offended by the rest of your post - my aunt is a "female preacher" as you call them and she is widely respected in the parish and my dog can walk on her hind legs for a good minute or so - don't be so judgemental and patronising please.

Sorry, friends. Renee's progress (or lack thereof) has been widely reported in the popular press and on the radio, (along with her rather frank views about Mr Cowell) so did not seems to be much of a secret.

The "Women preacher" comment refers to a quote from Boswell's Life of Samuel Johnson, and is a kind of truism - translated into this situation, it means we are terribly impressed by an 81-year-old being able to sing pleasantly but because of that fail to judge her with sufficient rigour compared to others with whom she should have a level playing field. It's a critique on positive discrimination, and has some relevance to this discussion.

No offence meant - it's a figure of speech!

Oh God! Sorry to you too, Mes.

In fact sorry to everyone!

SORRY, SORRY, SORRY!!!!!!!!!!

[I'll get my coat]

Oh no! It was sunny this morning, and I didn't bring one. I'm cursed! Doomed to get everything wrong until the end of time! It'll be like Groundhog Day without the happy ending...or like my first marriage. I've come over all Kafka and *gasp* I AM THAT BEETLE!
And with my luck, it's got to be Ringo!
I'm going now, and I may be gone some time.

There's nothing wrong with putting here through to the next round, but if you honestly think she has a chance of doing well in this competition you should think again.Look at the mess that Pop Idol 2 turned out to be with Michelle McManus winning it.So keeping Renee in because of her age is just a joke. For Renee to do well in this she will have to get by the Judges at Round 2 (that is if they use the same format as they did in Pop Idol). Then after that maybe that is when the public have their say.

The judges won't put her through the second round, cause they know theres a good chance we'd see the "McManus effect" again, i.e. the dozy sentimental GP would all vote for her and make her the winner, "Oh X-factor, I want the old woman to win, cause she's old". Then enough would buy her first record record and make her no.1, then forget all about her a month later.

The contest would just become a complete farce if Renee was to do well in it.The public would only keep her in because of her age & they would feel sorry for her.How many people would honestly go out & buy her single or even her album?.Plus at her age i can't see her doing an uk tour.

She could team up with those twins Gemini i mean it can't get any worse.

Gemini are great..and gorgeous.....With a bit of computer trickery and a "6 month break in America" they could rival Alex Parks.....
