EE - what happened to Shirley
Hi
Does anyone know what happened to Shirley? I thought she was quite a good character and she had estranged sons which could have been introduced too. They don't seem to have many women in their late 30s or 40s for some reason and the men (Janine/Barry/Natalie - Phil/Lisa - Grant/Tiffany - Patrick/Youlande) therefore seem to go out with women a lot younger. Also what happened to Billy Jackson? One short appearance and then gone. He had potential, I thought. |

I think she went to visit her sons after making it up with them? I think anyways....wasn't a massive exit!

Shirley wasn't very useful, she had only a handful of minor plots.. All in all she wasn't a very well-developed character at all..And of course her friendship with the Ferreiras was the kiss of death.

Yes, I think a character develops in whatever way the storywriters want them to. Corrie could have dispensed with lots of their old stalwarts over the years but have instead chosen to develop them. I thought there was room in EE for a women like Shirley who wasn't related to anyone already in there. I do agree any contact with the Ferreira's seems not to bode well. At least Madhur Jaffrey has other things to keep her occupied!
Surely it's about time they introduced some more middle class characters too. One of the characteristics of London is the mixing of different types of people in one community |

Lol, I just made a post about her disappearing act the other day. It would seem ShirleyMania is sweeping the board! They could have at least had a scene where one of the Ferrairas got a call from Shirl and let them know that she has decided not to return. 30 seconds of dialogue, how hard is that? Instead they had her do a Marlene Kratz. Lazy...
