I make my own Indian and Chinese. Why people pay a load extra is a mystery to me.

Because not everyone is as wonderful at cooking as you perhaps? Plus there are some things I think most people would find impossible to replicate at home, Nan bread being the one example.

Indeed the seasoning that they use is very concentrated, they contain a helluva lot of salt. Like anything else, it's fine for most folks in moderation.

Virtually all restaurants use way to much salt. All TV chefs do it.

Having cut down on my own salt intake and use herbs and spices instead a lot of food tastes over seasoned when I am eating out.

Erm, because takeaways, just like eating out, are a treat - hardly mysterious.

How do you know tv chefs are using too much salt when you can't taste the food they are cooking?

You are meant to leave it out for a bit before serving.

But Indian and West Indian takeaways will probably be worse than most, because the food is so highly seasoned, and that seasoning contains a lot of salt more so than say French cuisine.

don't mistake spices for seasoning, there is no reason for indian food to be highly salty just because it is spicy

We have known about the Chinese takeaways having MSG in them for years though.

Hardly surprising that Tikka Masala has too much food colouring in it. That stuff looks fluorescent! Why would you want it in the first place? It is just a load of yoghurt and tomatoes put together over chicken! Be a man - go for a vindaloo or madras, or even a phall.

Perhaps because people like to taste something. If you had proper Indian curry you would realise that it's not spicy as hell, that is mostly a British invention by people trying to make themselves look hard.

I agree. The b*stardised version of curry that some places serve in this country is a disgrace to proper curry.
