Obsessed with violence, rude, bigoted, hypocritical.
Creative certainly.
A mixture, fascinating in a way. As someone above said, a flawed human being, like us all.
Not someone I am very keen on. Not that that would matter to him!

That has to be one of the most charming insults ever.

Has he just done something new or is it a random dig at him?

If it's random, may I add that that Charlie Chaplin used to have a bit of a temper on him as well

when he was directing "the Passion.." he claimed the Holy Ghost was working through him.

I think he's gone ever so slightly bonkers and it's all catching up with him now.

Will you cry when Mel dies? I would expect at least a week off work for that one. Although when I saw the thread title I thought he had?

Given the OP and their reaction to the first couple of posts, I think we're supposed to mourn the loss of his great talent to the world of Film due him going doolally or his mask slipping.

Has he made anything that's memorable/notable in film history?
Mad Max probably counts as an example of Austraiian 80's film making.
On that tip, the documentary, Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! is well worth a watch, next time it turns up on TV.

Being an aggressive alcoholic swivel-eyed Catholic anti-Semite is a good few steps up - or down - from simply being a flawed and complicated man.

Ok, but if I insert the word 'very' prior to the word 'flawed', my statement is true. I'm sure he has a side to him that his friends and family see, that we don't see, and calling somebody a horrible person leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. Unless they absolutely genuinely deserve it, like Jedward for instance.

He's an "aggressive alcoholic swivel-eyed Catholic anti-Semite".
He is also an anti-English bigot and bravely attacks women , so there is quite a list of people good old Mel hates.

Have you read the stuff his father believes? No wonder he's a bit screwed.

I wonder how long he's had these opinions and kept them to himself? These aren't the sorts of views you just wake up and start having one day.

I guess that he just had the sense to keep his mouth shut when he was off the booze.

Doesn't he have a load of kids? (edit: one daughter and six sons, according to wikipedia) I feel sorry for them having to see their father like this, making a public spectacle of himself, but then perhaps they've seen it all before, only up close?

lt's sad to see him descend into alcoholism, domestic abuse and racism but Hollywood stars seem to be prone to falling from grace.

That said, Robert John Downey, Jr. has shown that it is possible to get on track again with appropriate treatment and help and perhaps the same is possible with Mel Gibson.

Theres a word to describe that rhymes with punt. Same goes for anyone with his racist views and attitude to women.

I was thinking the same. He's been to hell (wrong thread?) and hopefully he can claw his way back up again.
