Why do you never see the tram that passes over the viaduct in the opening title sequence during any live action taking place on the Street.?

Why do we only see a bus running down Rosamund Street when one of the characters wants to catch one?

Who took over the bookies when Peter Barlow left and why do we not see the new bookie at all?

Why do the extras in the Rovers Return always stand in the doorway when there is plenty of space at the bar?

Why do we not see the clinic any more?

Why isn't the owner of the chippy ever seen?

If all the houses on the old side of the street are 2 bedroomed, what are the sleeping arrrangements at the Barlows where 4 adults and a baby.reside? We know Tracey has her own room, and Ken and Deirdre sleep together, so where does Blanche sleep?

Blanche sleeps in the room downstairs.

The viaduct isn't really there apparently - they've digitally placed the train onto it for the opening sequence.

You haven't asked the one about where the Rovers' toilets are ....

I should save this as a Word document because it’s the same questions all of the time…

The tram on the opening titles is added digitally, so it’s not “really” there, although, the sound of tram/train can be rarely heard in the background of some outside scenes.

I think that the bus should be seen more frequently too, but obviously they only bring it out when it’s needed for a particular scene, save on money and time.

The new bookmaker just hasn’t been written into the story at this point, most likely because he’s simply not needed. He goes by the name of Fred if you’re that interested

The extras are obviously placed there to be in the background, they can’t have them all at the bar because then the focus would be taken away from the main characters involved in that specific scene.

The Health Centre/Clinic is rarely used now, since the only regular character that works there is Gail. When that location was first added to the Street, we had Dr Ramsden and Molly Hardcastle the nurse – so now, opportunities for storylines are few and far between.

The Chip Shop on Rosamund Street is called “Jackson’s Chippy”, and has been part of Coronation Street for many years – although the set itself was only created in 2000. Again, like the new bookie, there has been no need to introduce an owner for the shop, Mr Jackson I presume.

The terraces are 2-bedroomed yes, however the “Front Parlour” of Number 1 (Barlows) was converted into a bed-sit for Albert Tatlock way back in 1981, and has remained that way ever since, so that’s where Blanche sleeps. Most of the other “front parlours” in the other houses have also been used as a bedroom at some point during the show’s history.

I always love to see your posts re-Corrie as you are such an authority on all things Weatherfield I seem to recall a while back, somebody asked who exactly lived where on the street, and you came up with a list of everyone who lives in each house number by number! Do you have a link to that post, or could you name the occupants of each property again, pretty please?? Also, do you know how many bedrooms each house has, because I'm thinking that the Barlows, Baldwins and Grimshaws must get a little crowded!! Re-number 11, does Eileen have a room, Jason another, Sean the sofa and Todd the *front* room?? Sorry to be a bore, but these small things interest me

Sure shedseven, I’ve got nothing better to do….

Rovers Return Inn – Shelley Unwin & Liz McDonald

Number 1 Coronation Street (terraces = odd numbers) – Ken, Tracy and Amy Barlow, Deirdre Rachid, Blanche Hunt (2 bedrooms + front parlour conversion)

Number 3 – Emily Bishop & Norris Cole

Number 5 – Les Battersby, Cilla & Chesney Brown, Kirk Sutherland. (2 bedrooms, Kirk & Chesney have bunk beds)

Number 7 – Danny, Frankie, Jamie & Warren Baldwin (2 bedrooms, Jamie & Warren share)

Number 9 – Jack & Vera Duckworth, Tyrone Dobbs

Number 11 – Eileen, Jason & Todd Grimshaw, Sean Tully (eek )

Number 13 – Kevin, Sally, Rosie & Sophie Webster

Number 15a (Corner Shop Flat) – unoccupied
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Number 12 (directly above the Kabin) – Steve & Karen McDonald

Number 10 – Rita Sullivan

Number 8 – Gail, Sarah, David & Bethany Platt (3 bedrooms)

Number 6 – Tommy, Angela & Craig Harris (apparently 3 bedrooms, but very small!)

Number 4 – Ashley, Fred and Joshua Peacock (3 bedrooms)

**One of the selling points for the “new” houses was that they had 3 bedrooms as opposed to 2, although Numbers 6 and 4 are so tiny that the third bedroom is, as Mavis Wilton put it, “nothing more than a box room” **

Number 2a (Salon Flat) – Fiz Brown, Candice Stowe, Claire Casey & (I think) Maria Sutherland, although she may still be in the Streetcars flat which she used to share with Nick.

I assume that Todd & Jason share a room, although there are some times where the storylines don’t match the sleeping arrangements – for instance, when Jason thought Eileen’s one-night stand was one of Todd’s men…if Jason & Todd share a room then Jason must be stupid not to realise that Todd was alone all night, you know.

Didn't Eileen do the front parlour out for Todd as a study. Did he have a bed in there too???

Is the Salon still in its original location from when Ken's ex Denise(is that her) owned it and Fiona, Maxine worked there ?? - i'm sure it used to be bigger and the flat above it was also a lot different.

Speaking of Ken's ex - does he never wonder about his son ???

I don't think that there was a bed in there Derek no, the last time I think that Number 11's forn parlour was used as a bedroom was for Marion Yeats - or should I say Stardust Lil

The salon is the same building yes, although it does seem to be much smaller than it used to be. It's important to point out that the camera angle which was predominatly used for salon scenes in the 90s has been changed, which again could make the place look smaller.

The décor was originally much lighter too, which could mean that it appeared to be larger, that hideous orange colour must have some sort of shrinking effect.

Denise Osbourne lives in Scotland with Ken's son Daniel now (doesn't everyone in Ken's family move to Scotland?! ), the lad is coming up 10 in 2005 and will probably appear on Ken's doorstep when he's about 16 knowing the way that Street writers work. At the moment I think that his son is too young to be involved with storylines, and doubling up an 8 or 9 year old lad with Ken Barlow would only make some really boring episodes of the Street.

Thanks for such detailed explanations. I didn't realise I was mining such a rich seam.

Were you being ironic when you said the bookie's name was Fred.? The first rule of soapland is that you cannot have two characters with the same first name, so when the bookie eventually appears, will it mean that Fred Elliott has met his demise?

No, it's true.

What do you mean it's the first rule? There've been a lot of people in soaps with the same, or similar, names.

I thought his name was Phil? I read in the spoilers that it was Fred, but when Todd was telling Sean about it, im sure he said Phil.

There's been no soap with two characters having exactly the same first name, on at the same time.

Jackie Corkhill, Jacqui Dixon on Brookside - fair enough spelt differently but sound the same.

Coronation Street - Elsie Tanner & Elsie Lappin, 1960, Vera Duckworth & Vera Hopkins, Mark Redman & Mark Casey....

Elsie Lappin only appeared in the first few minutes of episode 1, never to be seen or mentioned again. Mark Redman was a child and away from the street at the time Mark Casey was around. Vera Hopkins was around from 1973 to 1975 but Vera Duckworth did not become an established character until 1976.

Surely the Corner Shop flat can't be un-occupied because doesn't Sunita live there?

I have seen the Granads studios on a recent visit to Manchester, and it is amazing how small the street really is! That tram and everything isn't there, so it must be digitally added as somone has pointed out. Also, the other shot where you see the Corner Shop and the other houses and a BT van driving into the next street, all that must be added in aswell.

You can't get into the studios, although there is a science museum next door, and you can see the whole of the old side of the street, and the new houses back garden's from in there. They are sort of multi-coloured windows and are above where Underworld and the Webster's garage is.

Has anybody been to the backstreet (can't remember the name of it) where all the stars' come out? It is really amazing and from there you can see the back of the old houses, and the Corner Shop. I was sooo cuffed because I got loads of autographs. It is AMAZING seeing these people in real life, in their cars!

If you haven't been, it's well worth a visit!

Yes it is unoccupied because Sunita moved out the other day, into Dev's flat at Weatherfield Quays.

Most of the features in the opening titles have been digitally added.
