Mine is taking place right now. It is a mushy mess of rice, chicken, fat free condensed mushroom soup. Believe it or not this was from a highly voted recipe!

I was then going to scrap it and have some frozen pies I have with some mash and veg, but I don't have any potatoes and it's Sunday evening.

I then decided to go out for dinner, but as we are going away are low on funds, i decided on a vouchercode place but our printer has run out of ink!!!!!!! Ahhhhhh meltdown!

What can I dooooooo

Was making a lovely spaghetti Bol once. Thought I'd grabbed the Worcester sauce and put a couple of healthy dashes into the mix. Only to realise when tasted it that I'd picked up the sesame oil bottle by mistake. Sooo disgusting. Even the cat wouldn't eat it

It almost happened the other week when I was making a thai green curry. I was reducing the sauce too fast and it started to split. I managed to rescue it by adding plain flour, which made a pan full of grey goop, but I added water to thin it out and cook out the flour and managed to get an edible sauce.

It reminds me of another time though when I wasn't so lucky. I was making a cider sauce to go with a pork chop and again reduced the sauce too fast (and not paying attention) and it basically turned into jam.

I can't recall if I actually had a dollop on the plate with my plain pork chop

Not a meal per se, but I attempted to make chocolate custard once, umfortunately the eggs split so I ended up with cocoa flavoured scrambled egg....bleurgh!

Just a quick tip if you didn't know - if a cream based sauce splits, add a bit more cream - that usually rescues it

I thought i'd try scrambled eggs in the microwave once. I simply created a rubber frisbee. At that point I decided microwaves were only meant for re-heating food or melting butter.

A steak and guiness casserole. It was when my parents came over for dinner and it was vile. I followed a recipe to the letter and i bought all the ingredients that were listed, which cost a fortune. We couldn't eat it.

Then, to top it off i made the worst pudding of my life. It was a berry fool. I spent ages cooking, straining the fruit. Then added cream, sugar etc. I put it in lovely glass dishes, put fresh fruit on the top for decoration and a shortbread biscuit on the side. It looked divine, and tasted of absolutely nothing.

I've made bread that was rock solid (much better at it now)

Desserts that wouldn't cook through even though been in the oven an hour or 2.

My mum made a mean Meat and Potato Pie, the first time I attempted it was a disaster.
It just never occurred to me to pre-boil the potatoes

I once made salmon fish cakes (I'd made them often before) but this time I had no eggs. So I just did flour/milk/breadcrumbs when it came to coating them.

Big mistake

When it came to frying them they just disintegrated into a big heap of sludge

Believe it or not it was actually rice. I mixed in a load of spices and it was absolutely horrid.

A few that spring to mind...

Stuffed marrow with rice and tuna in the slow cooker. Smelled and tasted like sweat!

I made some prawn and garlic cakes last year and they were vile. I LOVE garlic, but they just tasted of horrible raw garlic.

A few months back I cooked some rice which ended up as stodge (turned out it was the rice, not my cooking). Well I thought i'd have it for lunch cold the next day to save wasting it and added chilli sauce, mayonnaise, peas and sweetcorn. All I can say is i'll never repeat that again!!

Recently I made this and it was totally tasteless apart from cream (not a big fan of it on its own).

I do like experimenting and usually it works out quite well, nut not always

I once had a disaster with onion soup. I think the onions may have been on the verge of going bad because it tasted rancid.

Except for burning myself on the oven or dropping food on the floor, most 'disasters' are rectifiable.
But many moons ago, when I first lived on my own with my then partner, I attempted to prepare red cabbage like my mum and grandmother used to. Instead of a warm burgundy velvety colour they turned out blue. I cannot stand blue food, really and they tasted and smelled like cabbage that has been cooked to death.
Since then I have perfected the art of preparing red cabbage. Yum.

I'd just left home and didn't have a clue.

That's reminded me of my soup disaster. It was supposed to be broccoli, but because the onions were obviously on the turn, the whole thing went a muddy brown colour rather than a vibrant green, it tasted more like mud too, ended up binning most of it

I was making onion sauce; something I have made a million times before (in fact, roux was the first thing I learnt to cook at 11 years old due to an unhealthy obsession with macaroni or cauliflower cheese).

So this one particular day, I added wholegrain mustard as per usual, but must somehow have added way too much. I decided to attempt to rescue it and that's where the trouble really began: I didn't want to add more milk and make the sauce too watery and I had some cream cheese in the fridge that I'd used for baking so lobbed a load of that in. The smell was sickly sweet and a quick taste check made me gag. Still thinking I may be able to rescue it, I thought I'd grate some mature cheddar in. The stuff still tasted gross, but it was the smell that made me chuck it!
