Free range animals benefit from living a more natural life and for the priveledge of knowing that you will be expected to pay 4 times more for frre range produce

Some people attribute paying 4 times as much = 4 times nicer

It isn't!

There is no earthly reason why animal living free should "taste" better. as result - anymore than you would

Rick Stein prayed to god that free range turkey tasted better than battery farmed one - he failed miserably and chose Aldi turkey as best taste

Paying 4 times the price buys you moral high ground ONLY - get used to it

Firstly, I've never seen free range at 4x the price, more usually about 50% extra and secondly m.y experience is that the better fed an animal is, the better it tastes. Free range hens fed on muck will have a happier life than battery hens fed on muck, but a free range hen fed on good stuff will be much nicer. Same goes for lamb and other meats

I get 6 for £1 and I know they are truly free range and not the so called free range sold in supermarkets.

Yes they taste nicer as for one they are much fresher .

Hmmm I always buy chicken free range at it just seems to taste better than non free range, and I cook it in exactly the same way. It only costs about a £1.00 more, I can deal with that...

If it were £1 more for free range chicken i would buy it, but in my local supermarkets its a lot more than normal chicken, and i can't afford it.

Having said that, i have bought free range chicken before when its been on offer, and i do think it tastes far superior. Luckily i have my own chickens, so i do get free range eggs all the time.

It's not so much about the taste for me - I just cannot bring myself to buy caged hen eggs or chickens. Aldis free range chickens are very well priced.

Battery-farmed chickens taste better.

Of course, if the psychological effect of buying free range poultry means you enjoy them more, keep buying free range.

I've only bought corn fed free range chicken twice and both times it was far superior to the usual chicken I buy. It was a better taste and texture.

I think if it becomes the norm then the prices around here for it will go down a little so that more people will be buying it.

I think free range probably tastes better. Organic is often the big rip-off as in my opinion organic meat tastes no better than non-organic and costs a lot more.

I always buy corn fed, free range from one of my local farm shops. Supermarket chicken just doesn't compare.

Having said that, I do buy frozen chicken breasts in Costco as a standby.

Yeah I forgot that it's £1 more but you also get slightly less in the pack than non free range. It's a habit that I can't break out of now. The eggs taste so delish also!

The same as Organic to be honest, you pay more for the same thing and it don't taste any different.

Thats why people should buy free-range - to reflect their concern for animal welfare

Not delude themselves that free-range = better taste - it dont!

i say fine! - just like any other religious fanatic they can live in their own utopian ideal

just so long as they dont expect anyone else to believe it

cuz there is no earthly reason a free range animal should 'taste better'

I am skeptical about the quality of life argument with free range. I suspect there is actually very little difference in how battery / free range are treated. Also the breed of chicken is important tto influence taste, i.e. if the offspring of battery chickens are free range or even organic bred there will be little discernable difference in taste from parent to child.

I also think the biggest impact on taste is what happens to the chickens after they've been slaughtered.

You are right to be.

So there's no difference between battery hens and my neighbour's hens and ducks foraging on the sea shore? I'll beg to differ on that one!

Your neighbor isn't mass-producing hens for the supermarket.

You can't buy ducks that have been foraging on the seas shore to eat can you? Free range just means they have been allowed outside.

Personally, I couldn't give a toss if it's free range or not, whatever the meat/eggs. As long as the price is good.
