I'm using shareaza to download.
If you don't have Windows XP (which has a built-in firewall), then you most probably haven't got one otherwise you would remember installing it.
I have Windows XP.

Isn't 80Kbps good? That would take about 30 s to download a mp3 single.

Sorry if everything is going slow etc, but I'm learning as this is happening. What should I set it at? I'm on a 750K broadband connection.

It's a lot faster than mine, i can only upload at 30kb/s.

You want to set your upload slightly lower than the maximum so that you will still be able to browse the internet etc. normally

well you should set your upload speed at max as you're the seeder, at least until a few people have downloaded the file. Otherwise it's gonna take days for anyone to download a 400MB video.
I'm not sure what your upload speed is, do you have a dsl connection in which case 750K might be your download speed but your upload is likely to be much lower than that.

OK , for those who don't know 1KB = 8Kb (1Byte=8bits).
Uncle Dave, do you have DSL ? Your upload speed should then be between 16 and 60KB/s or 128 to 500Kb/s.
When you upload a 100MB video with a classic 500/128Kb/s dsl connection, it should take you about an hour and a half or 1min/MB of data if I'm not mistaken.

I think there are 4 people downloading, I have uploaded 270% of the file, does that mean that 2 people have the whole file?

Are you at home ? Do you have a dsl connection ?
Is there not an icon at the bottom of your screen when you connect to the net, if there is, click on it and it might give you all the info you need.
The thing with Bittorrent is, you need a seeder, you who makes the file available to start with, then people will start downloading and at the same time upload the bits they've already downloaded to other leechers,
the more people download and/or leave the file available for upload once they're done, the faster it gets for anyone to download the original file.
But at the beginning it will always be slow as there's only one source, aka you, in this case.

Ok, episode 1 is uploaded.

Anyone who is downloading please keep seeding too because I won't be able to seed every episode every day at some point I will have to take episode 1 off.

I do have details of who is downloading, and I will be able to tell if these people are seeding so beware if i think you are not seeding too then I will not allow you to download any future episodes.

1 average mp3 = 3 MB or 24Mb
80Kbps = 10 KBps, 10KBps*300=3MB so that's 300sec for a 3MB MP3

My BT client says over 25 hours to download the episode. And I was the only one downloading. You really need to set your upload rate to max, I was only downloading at under 5KBps instead of 10 (10KBps=80Kbps) .

If you have Windows Xp you do have a firewall, go to control panel, network connections, then the icon(s) you'll see will be your internet connection or local network, click the internet one, go to properties, advanced and see if the firewall is activated. It's highly recommended no to use it BUT you should still use one (only not the Windows one), especially if you're not up to date with the security patches, otherwise you'll get viruses. Mind you the main problem here doesn't seem to be the firewall but you setting the upload rate too low.
It usually takes 1.5 hour to upload 100MB with a classic DSL connection at full speed, that's 16KBps or 128 Kbps.

If this doesn't do the trick, it's probably the firewall here's some info on how to set the Windows XP one :

Maybe it would be faster if I just made the file available through Kazaa or the like?

BT is the best way of ensuring lots of people get the file, as long as the people who get it off you stick around to seed afterwards.

Let's see how well the torrent is doing after 24 hours. It may be that Torrentbox is not the best place for this sort of torrent
