What's your view on props - ditch them or let them stay?

They do add to the theatricality of the performance - as long as they don't hinder the dancing I don't see the harm.

Personally I think the costumes and the make-up teams do such a fantastic job on the show that the props might be a gimmick that follows on from other reality shows and aren't needed. Maybe they are too much for the celebs to cope with too.

I'm ambivalent either way - I didn't mind their introduction but I'd be just as happy for the actual dancing to take centre stage.

I voted "if they add to the dance" but for the most part, last year they didn't.

If they add to the dance or that dance is the Charleston. Otherwise no. I'll just about allow a cape in paso. The door in Scott's jive was okay as it fitted with the dance and wasn't used to hide lack of dance ability.

My opinion- No.

Swings, windows, park benches.
No, just no.

The only prop that I welcomed was the harness that had Widdy suspended up in the gods,
Then they ruined it by letting her down to the floor.

Seriously, do you think that props enhanced or detracted from the dancing?

Do I want props?

Only if you can guarantee that a heavy one falls on James Jordan!

Just bumping this thread to replace the later one that I mistakenly started.

Like some of the comments above, I don't mind a prop is it add to atmosphere of dance, but not if it is used as a filler to shorten the actual dancing time *cough* Brendan and Michelle on a park bench *cough*

The introduction of "props" was the producer's idea of "added value."

And many dance enthusiast's idea of "added nonsense."

Why do they constantly unecessarily mess this show about?

Props come in two categories if you ask me

Acceptable ones are hats, canes or feather boas. Things that fit in to the spirit of the dance.

Unacceptable ones, that drive me nuts, are chairs, tables, pianos, mirrors and hulking great cauldrons!!

That said I loved the prop dance on the pro tour but that was because that was the whole idea of the dance not that it was a VW/cha cha/paso with so much faffing that it limits the dancing!

There were an awful lot of pointless props last series - Matt's swing, Gavin's rugby ball, Scott's cauldron, Pamela's desks - to name but a few. Kara & Artem largely used props to enhance the dance - the chair in the tango, the hatstand in the AT, even the scarf in the foxtrot all worked well. But even they did some pointless thing with a pair of sun-glasses at the beginning of their jive. Why?

Other props that worked well were Scott's jive door and Jimi's Charleston windows.

So, this series, God save us from glittery bales of hay, wellington boots and unicycles (Aliona surely did love those old props, didn't she?).

I want to watch dancing, not faffing about with props for half a dance

also, just to add, stop faffing about on the stage/stairs as well, just get on the flipping floor and dance!!!!!
