New iPod Help!!!
allthatyouwant
05-09-2011
Hi, basically just upgraded my old 4gb ipod to a new 8gb ipod touch, not sure what gen it is but its the newest one. Anyway I could get 600 songs on my old iPod and it's only letting me put 700 on the new one - when I look on the bar on iTunes it says there is alot of 'other' in the capacity bit but I don't have any apps or photos/videos etc it is only my music
I'm really stumped as to what they can be referring too!

When you plug it into your computer, tap on the iPod in iTunes and then look through the various tabs on the Summary screen to see what is set to sync. Anything that isn't music, set it to off and see if that helps.

If you are synchronizing with your iTunes then problems are common thing. itunes are not worth for synchronizing data. If some how you fail to synchronize and the process stops in the middle then you can loose your songs and other important items. As such you need to take help of professional application that recovers iPod data.

Couldn't agree more. Itunes is a bug infested awful program, the worst I have ever had to use. Can't even update my phone or ipod without it timing out despite switching off virus protectors and firewall. It even makes a problem out of importing cds to its library, it treats old cds as singles and so you can only play one track at a time instead of the entire album. After much searching and eventually phoning Apple I have discovered that you have to make a compilation of it. There is nothing at all in the itunes help menu if you search 'compilation'. In any case, why should we have to go through this procedure when Windows handles it so well. Ah the joys of the not so user friendly as they make out Apple products.

OP: What kind of iPod did you have before? The software on the touches is pretty big, and takes up a lot of space. A firmware file for a 8GB touch is about 400MB, which explains a bit of it.
