Decision day today, not really that fussed who wins it.........as long as it's not Tinah Tempah or Ghostpoet.

My personal fav is PJ Harvey and King Creosote.

I think James Blake will get it - I'm by no means a fan but it's just the sort of 'left field' album the Mercury Committee like.

The King Creosote album is pretty amazing.
I'm torn between that, Anna Calvi, PJ Harvey and Metronomy. Either of them and I'm ok. In fact what's the chances of them making it a four way tie?

I don't think they really have a chance but I'd like it to be Metronomy.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ghostpoet sneak out of nowhere and winning it, or if not him then Metronomy, Katy B or PJ Harvey (though I really can't see PJ Harvey winning simply because she's already won it before).

I hope it's Metronomy, but I'd be equally happy if James Blake or Katy B won it.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread started on this before now, but that just goes to show how little interested most are in the DS music forum in half decent music. Very sad.

I sincerely hope Katy B doesn't win. It would be a travesty if she did. She should never have been nominated in the first place.

Adele stands a chance but the MMP usually is awarded to lesser known or alternative acts.My guess would be Anna Calvin or PJ Harvey, but as PJ has won it before she would make MMP history were she to win it twice, so that pretty well rules her out. But out of the whole lot she deserves to on merit alone for her brilliant album Let England Shake.. Apart from Adele, Anna and PJ who are all genuinely talented, the other candidates really are meh or just plain awful.

I'd absolutely love to see Adele win this, her success story is incredible, and her album has not only sold in it's millions, but is actually an incredbily solid effort, and IMO crowning 21 would apologise for the snub of 19.

Either that, or Katy B. Another incredible album, and On A Mission is very much underrated by the general public in my opinion. Katy seems to be seen as a bit of a 'chav', when really, the album is pretty much dance perfection.

I'd like to see Katy B get some industry recognition failing that though i'd give it to Adele

I would be astonished if Adele gets it, no matter how much I personally love the album. The Mercurys do the same thing most years - nominate a massive selling album/artist in order to increase press coverage (and maybe try to get them to perform on the cheap, lol). Just look back at previous nominations of massive selling albums/artists and they don't win (i suppose Arctic Monkeys could be classed as an exception).

I'm not particularly fussed who wins it this year, can't get particularly excited about any of the albums nominated.

Having said that I think James Blake will win it.

It'd be hilarious if Adele did win it, could she possibly be any more succesful with that album if she did?!

I'd love Katy B to win it but I don't think she has a chance.

My prediction is Anna Calvi, even though she terrifies me.

i would like katy b to win. one of my favourites of this year, without a doubt. although, i have a feeling james blake or anna calvi will win. adele is possibly the least likely to win, in my opinion. however, she will clean up at the brits next year!

You might be right there. The Brits tend to award success over quality most of the time so even though PJ Harvey and her album wipe the floor with Adele and Laura Marlings new album is still to be released the Brits will unjustly fawn over Adele cause she's successful, not the best.
Which is kind of why the Brits have become a bit of joke ceremony over the years.

Every year I've bought the Mercury Music Prize compilation CD for a few quid. Past several years I've purely bought it out of some habit or "collectamania" (plus they are always cheap).
Anyway, I notice this year there don't seem to be a CD...... that kinda represents to me how times have changed, declining numbers of CDs are sold and music is now little more than "bytes" and the traditional CD that accompanies the awards has bitten the dust.

adele has pulled out of her performance tonight, due to ill health. it would have been good to have seen her perform at least. it is not like she needs the cash prize. so for her i guess, it was more about getting nominated.

What channel is it on?

My choice is James Blake, my favourite album of this year, just so different and very emotional.

should have noticed that!

Think James blake might not win though, since The xx won last year and he is in the similar sort of acoustic/minimal music genre. Wouldnt be surprised if some dark horse won i.e Anna calvi or king creotsoe, seems pretty open this year, anyone could win!

Adele isn't the favourite to win. It wouldn't be my choice but I think Katy B will win and then join the long list of artists who are forgotten about in a few years.
