I also loved Baby One More Time when it came out, but I didn't become a big Britney fan until 2001 when I'm A Slave 4 U came out. I don't think Sometimes would have been a good enough single to catch the public's attention. It's a nice song but a bit dull. I always thought Sometimes was the third single and I only found out a few months ago that it was actually the second single. I think I thought it was the third single because it's the third song on the album and (You Drive Me) Crazy is the second song. I must admit that I prefer the Stop remix of Crazy to the album version. I don't know, it just sounds better.

Baby One More Time was catchy and that video with the school uniform also helped! I read somewhere that the original idea for the BOMT video was supposed to be a cartoon thing but Britney herself didn't like it and she came up with the school uniform idea as she thought her fans could relate to it more. I wonder if BOMT would have been so successful if they had used the original video idea? Love her or hate her, Britney definitely is a major part of 21st Century pop culture.

I read that Do Somethin' from the first GH album was meant to be for Original Doll as well. Break The Ice was re-recorded for Blackout. The only songs outta those that I know exist are Mona Lisa (which was released on the Chaotic EP and as a B-side to Someday, which some people suggest was for Original Doll as well), Money Love Happiness, Ouch and a Peep Show (snippets, not the full song). I have those songs. There is also a song called Chaotic which was used as the theme show to Britney and Kevin: Chaotic and some think that might be from the OD recording sessions but others say it was a leftover from the ITZ recording sessions. Fascinating article...oh how i wish Original Doll was released...while i love the idea now of it being a cult album, as said here like the Beach Boys "Smile" album....but darn how something official THEN in 2005 would have been not just for Pop music but a whole game changed entirely! Would have definitely brought forth why we have the likes of lana and Lorde today expressing themselves in mainstream music without truly losing themselves.

It is sad to read how much her label kept so much back...In The Zone and Blackout are the closest we could have ever gotten to where Britney was to take us....i would adore it one day if they officially unleashed it to the world....where she could have gone. I love the idea of Sigsworth and Bloodshy & Avant being the main production team too.

It should have been released. It sounded like a very promising album and I'd say it would have been even more personal than Britney Jean. It would have been raw, uncut Britney Spears and I'd say it would have done well. Both the fans and most of the general public who like pop music would have probably liked it. Wonder how many singles would have been released from OD? I know Mona Lisa was supposed to be the lead and maybe Do Somethin' would have been the second single, but I'd say that song Take Off (which I would love to hear) would have made a good single. I have heard the few songs that have leaked and I liked them. I have an unreleased song called Guilty that was likely recorded during the ITZ/what would've been OD era - was that a song intended for Original Doll or was it an In The Zone outtake? I have to admit she really was held back with her label Why do record labels do that to artists?

Yeah i love them...really love the album in fact it really is one of her best albums IMO i love how influenced it is by Swedish Electronica music and the British Urban/Industrial scene...very cool and i remember her saying that she went to EDM festivals or something when she was recording the album in 2010...IMO it has improved with time. Just wish mroe releases and promo was given to it but alas.

And no i do not use Exhale...do you recommend it??

Well I think Femme Fatale is a decent album but it seems to be an album that grows on you rather than an instant hit, unlike say Blackout or Britney (album). Blackout was an instant hit for me. I was hooked on it (reference to her unreleased song (Hooked On) Sugarfall there ) from first listen, whereas with FF it took a few listens before I really got into it. It does get a bit stale after a while but I find the trick is not to listen to it for a while and then listen to it again. The original concept of the album was supposed to be urban but it was changed for dance pop at the last minute. It's still a good album though even if it doesn't live up to the original concept. It should have been promoted better and there were quite a few potential singles on it. Some of the deluxe tracks should have been singles. I think in 2011 there was not a lot of interest in Britney though as the likes of Katy and the Gaga had already taken over. I find that post-meltdown a lot of people went off Britney. I know quite a few people who used to be fans but aren't any more, although some of them have heard Work Bitch and a couple of other recent songs.

I've been on Exhale since January and yes I recommend it if you want to talk about Britney. It's one of the biggest, if not THE biggest, Britney Spears forum on the 'net. Best pop over there and have a look. My username on there is GetToWorkBitch. It was partly inspired by the song and partly inspired by a strict lecturer I have at university who likes to make her slaves, er students, work and I had a mental image of her telling a student "now get to work bitch!"

i hadn't realised that there was an album before the amazing 'blackout' that never was released! But listening to suggested track lists... it really was the bridge in sound from in the zone to blackout ....

maybe she needs to go back to the drawing board and give 'the original doll' a re-birth

Most of the Original Doll album was deleted. And all that officially remains is Mona Lisa and 1 entirely leaked tracks and snippets. Can't remember the name of the co-writer was but she may have more. But for the most part it is finite. And As much as we fans want to her it I don't think she herself does.

She excorsied her demons on Blackout. It was dark and dank and a total F u to all and everyone. They stopped Original Doll but she still fired her team and went on to create the album she wanted. If Original Doll was released in sound it would have conformed massively to the sound of the time. Blackout was brave innovative and way different to all that was going on. And yes there are tracks I would like to hear but mostly Blackout needed to happen more.

thats why i said i didn't know that it existed and was a bridge between albums and sounds ...and 'blackout' for me was britney's best album. I can't review 'original doll' as i don't know the track list.

But that hybrid of sound to reinvestigate as inspiration for the fans could be interesting .... and i am sure would be highly viewed...but only if she wanted to ...


i get the impression that certain recordings had a 'blackout' raw urban sound ...and the label were not happy , hence the glossed version of 'do something' on the compilation hits album. But 'Blackout' prevailed, thankfully.... even Simon Cowell said how dreadful he thought the album was .... how little did they understand ....it was such a pop game changer of an album ....

Apparently it was destroyed, whatever that means What remains is Mona Lisa, Do Somethin' (was intended for it), Money Love Happiness, Ouch and some snippets of Peep Show. Michelle Bell was the co-writer and apparently she was told not to leak some of the other songs. I read that on an unreleased Britney website a while back. Britney herself was the executive producer of Blackout, according to the back of the CD, so it sounds like she had loads of creative control over it. I think Britney's next album needs to be dark and edgy again. Britney Jean was awful bar a couple of songs (eg Work Bitch - I love that one ). That album was ahead of its time and I consider it to be raw, uncut Britney Spears at her best I wonder if Original Doll had actually been released would we have got Blackout or would she have moved on to Circus?

I think if OD had been released she would have gone in a completely different direction, she would have chosen a different path and done different music, she probably wouldn't have suffered her mental breakdown and wouldn't have needed to release Blackout, she then wouldn't have been put under the conservatorship so wouldn't have been forced to do Circus or FF. We would have had an entirely different Britney.

I wonder if Original Doll had been released what kind of music would she have done after it? Would she have stayed with pop or would she have gone in a completely different direction? I suspect she might have released Blackout as she had started recording for it around 2006 IIRC (songs like Rebellion and State of Grace were intended for it) but it might have been a completely different album with a completely different sound and it might have even had a different name (I remember reading it was originally gonna be called Black, Black Curtain or Piece of Me).

I sometimes think what led to her mental breakdown was her marriage to K-Fed. Would that still have gone ahead if Original Doll had been released? Another thing that might have changed is the general public's opinion of her. If she had released OD the public might have respected her more as an artist rather than just a popstar. I know all we can do is speculate but it's interesting to imagine what could have been.

I personally feel ALL of Britneys albums to me have taken time to like...the ones that were instant kinda gone off...i mean for me her first three albums i find harder to listen to bar a few songs...actually her third and self titled album i find the better of the three despite the criticism of her going R&B it was VERY Britney

My preference is still the later Britney material In The Zone onwards.....yeah if Original Doll HAD been released we may not indeed have heard or seen any album since then Blackout, Circus, FF, BJ....we would have had a reinvented Britney and anew area for her to head...would have been interesting seeing her evolve across the decade i mean i think Electropop/Electronica would have still influenced her in some ways but i do think she would have definitely and effectively learnt from Madonna and really reinvented her sound an styles and themes over the years...but alas didnt happen as much.

As for Femme Fatal the past two days of playing it DAMN how I really wish it was given more airtime...i loved the sounds and styles on the album and would have ADORED if she shook her imagery up more...shorter hair maybe with an old skool cvintage style....or indeed dyed her hair black for the album and combined thsoe vintage styles from the photoshoot we got with some punky styles as seen in her videos that era....gel them both together rather than contrast...would have made a more thematic experience but alas...it happened. But I do think FF is definitely one of her best...althouvh she did have MIA producer Rusko on there (their songs accidently got burned down in his studio in late 2010) so we would have had more grimey vibes i think...i also ADORE the fanmade Femme Fatale cover perhaps a bit more than our official one (they could have a released a "dark" cover and "light" cover to unleash the album)

Suits the "mood" of the album...i mean Seal it with a Kiss, Inside Out, Hold it Against Me, How I Roll, gasoline, Criminal, He ABout To Lose Me etc with their grimey/darker nature of styles i just feel it suited THAT style imagery...and some of those outtake pictures just beautiful for the booklet <3

Anyways..eah ...i do think Britney Jean sadly will become an album suited to TODAYS world fascination with EDm/Club heavy sonvs as opposed to many years down the line like ITZ, Blackout and FF where i feel do have that time to breathe and form as they are creative in tone and context.

while i prefer BJ to her first two albums...i would have to say that...and darn how i wish we got to hear what she Orbit, Dev Hynes, Naughty Boy crafted together for the album...Feed The Wolves sounded a BRILLIANT working title for the album...Wolfney would have been great...i just hope they saved it back and OFFICIALLY launch thsoe songs on album 9 revardless of al lelse as i think we NEED to hear them...she is only performing three sonvs from BJ at Vegas :/

I would love for her to release "Original Doll" (not gonna happen seeing as most of it has been destroyed. Who does that?! Her record label must have been suffocating for them to have done that ....) but I don't know whether it would be successful now. Am I alone? I feel that the time for that to be huge has passed.

Oh and as for Femme Fatale in 2011...yeah we had HEAVY loads from RIhanna and the Loud album campaign (then later Talk That Talk when We Found Love was unleashed) we had Katy Perry at her absolute peak with singles everywhere (Firework, ET, Last Friday Night) we had gaga in her Honeymoon phase with Born This Way promoted heavily everywhere...and of course the legendry union of J Lo and Pitbull and of course LMFAO shwocasing the commercial dance foder front. Not to mention the formidable Adele with 21.

So Britney Spears really didnt have THAT much space for the album BUT i would have adored if she came to the UK and eprformed or when on Norton and just presented her material to the world...released more and gained a lot of worldwide respect...she ended up having her longest run in a line of conescutive hits Stateside with the album with three massive selling/heavily played top 10 hits. So i just wished it translated worldwide for ehr as the album is/was worth it.
