In what way do you see it being a joke?
The audition format is the same way as they did in the Pop Idol series.The only difference is they have 3 groups of people that can audition.

UNLESS, what he or she is tryin to say is that pple set themselves up to be laughed at by the nation, and TV crew and not to mention, the judges themselves, and perhaps these pple are questioned as to WHY they think they have the dance moves or the singing voice when clearly they dont, but prob have huge talent somewhere else.

It's entertainment.....to watch people auditioning to become famous only to suffer the wrath of Simon, Louis & Sharon & be told they're absolutely crap & have no chance of making it makes me laugh anyway but that's the sadistic nature in me .

We're aware of that aspect of the show but I don't believe that people with the "real" talent were sent home! They are in it for the money and in it to win it. They wouldn't send home the people who genuinely are able to make it as that is what they are going to use to get all of our cash of us at the end of the year.
I think perhaps you were too close to it. Objectively, the judges know exactly what they want, even the ones that aren't Simon Louis and Sharon, and the people you saw get sent home - regardless of their voice - didn't have what they were looking for.
This is auditions for their show after all.
I understand what you saying that it is their show and they control what they want and what they don't want. But i am really not kidding about how good some of them were.
Also I would add that not all people go there cos they are desperate they go there for there chance to sing in front of real music producers. alot of the peole i talked while i was there add been trying to be heard by the right people for years.

I can see how the public find the bad auditions funny and they need to show them to balance the program, but even simon has said that he has been disapointed with the standard of candidates this year and from being there and seeing it with my own eyes, he did not see a true indication of what talent was out there. They where sent home by the television producers. If everyone was good would the public still watch?
The producers know that with the amount of hype the show produces and as long as there are some credible people in the running they will make all the money they want. The programe is a prime example of corrupted reallity TV.

What the judges said a few times during the show on Saturday (among the pithy put-downs ) was "I don't think you're right for our show". They have a definate agenda and these people that were turned away that are as good as you say were just not what they were looking for.
The ones that have been trying to be heard may have been rejected as there are so many people in the charts (as that's what they are going for here) already with that sound. They will also, from my cynical point of view, want people who can be manipulated and moulded so anyone with a spark of the rebel about them wouldn't get through automatically. Look at the chap on Saturday who "failed at interview" one of the reasons being that they thought he didn't have the right attitude and he "would turn up an hour late for rehearsals".
It's unfair but it's their show and we've been invited along for the ride. However the voyeur in me is going to enjoy every minute of it!
Sort of related-ish is Emma from Big Brother 5. Have you heard snippets of her proposed single? It's dire. They might have been incredible singers in your eyes. In other people eyes they may be just average.

I thought that applicants have a pre-screening screening (
) where the producers decide if you get to go forward to see the big 3.
There were hundreds of average singers there, but their were some incredible ones i assure you. You May say thats just my opinion but I have been a musician for years and some people just have a magic about them. When they sing you get goose bumps.
That is the x factor I think simon and the rest of the judges are looking for. There was a girl in the same holding room as me. she must have been about 18 or 19. All she was doing was some warm ups and I just had to keep on listening. She had such a voice I can't put it into words. I will never forget it. She was with her mum and a friend I think and when she came out of her audition all the sparkle she had was just gone from her face. But she was soon smiling again and was gathering her stuff together when this woman who looked like a drag queen came out after her audtion and she had got a red card.( that ment she got called back to face simon and the others) When she was singing outside the toliets earlier in the day she sounded like parrot being strangled. The other girl That sang so wonderfully just broke down in tears. all She kept saying as she left the room was why does someone like that get a chance mum Why when I have worked so hard.
Any one who is involved with the music industry needs to be able to take the knock backs, but to see some one like that drag queen get a chance to face the real judges, when you are are aware that you can at least hold a tune. what an insult! I think how she was treated was so wrong.

Me and the other half were sat watching it, especially the reel with all the people turned down, and wondered how many suicide attempts are generated by a show like this.

The GBP proved him wrong on that one so he's not going to risk it happening again - sure Will is a success but Simon and the record company simply did not like Will having such a controlling influence on his own career. Will is the last truly 'individual' person you're going to see coming out of shows like this.

1) the drag queen was not getting a chance at all - they were being served up to the rest of us as ludicrously self-deluded. The young lady was rejected in favour of other GOOD contestants for whom there are a separate but limited number of places.
2) If failing an audition puts her off singin for life then she would not have lasted in the business.
3) There is a limit to the number of acts in any year which can become Number 1. Do we need more talented people in the mass industry, or do those with a moderate talent but little business/industry nous actually sit better in a smaller artistic pond? This show is aiming to find someone with mass appeal. They are unlikely to be very "edgy" or different. It's a job.
4) I don't think anyone is being used - they all volunteered.

At the end of the day no one is forcing them to apply for the show.If not all of them then most of them will have a rough idea that you are going to get some backlash from the judges.

to answer your points:
1. she may have being served up to be sent up, but she still got a chance to sing in front of simon and the other judges which is why all of us were there. Thats where she got a chance and the young girl didn't.
2. Failing the audition was not what she was upset about, it was the fact she didn't get the chance to shine in front of the real judges. You may be right about her not being able to cut it in the business, but surely someone that young should not be so demoralised for the sake of TV.
3. Everyone who attends auditions know there are limited places but they should be judged fairly. You are right it is only a job, but it one of the toughest jobs to get a break in. Talent should come first the business side can be handled by a good manager.
4. Yes we all volunteered but it was thinking we were being judged by record producers not TV producers. If these Tv producers are so great at picking out vocal talent why are they in TV. We were mis lead that is why we were used.
