To answer the original post, yes it is a joke and here's why - its a musical talent show which isn't really about music or talent. Its about what will make good TV and as much money as possible in a short period of time.

I want to watch it to see who gets through. If none of them are particularly talented or interesting, I won't bother to watch the finals. Certainly won't be parting with my hard earned cash to vote!

This is all i have to say

x factor isn't about people who have talent but they either are 1000% pretty or they have a sympathy vote from simon, sharon (sorry i do really respect sharon) or Loui but i say out of the three loui would give the most sympathy votes outta the three judges

The show form where i am watchign is about makeing a mockery of people who

1) have a passion for singing (ok they're nto the brilliant of singer but they have a passion at least)

and

2) to maek one-hit wonders

as much as i love michelle mcmanus but i mean she didn't last did she now? this is the cruel fate that will fortale the winer/winners of X factor!!! and i'm glad now that i didn't get passed the producer stage as i dont like people making a mochery of me or turign me in to a teeny bopper outt a me coz i know i'm better than that

The audition format is the same way as they did in the Pop Idol series. The only difference is they have 3 groups of people that can audition.

Do you think that the X-Factor series is going to go down the same route like they did with Michelle McManus regarding Pop Idol 2?”

I think the xfactor is a big joke because you got old people going on there wanting to get big and there looking for good looking young people not old people

On behalf of all "sad", "council estate TV" viewers can I please ask that you stick to BBC Four then. I'm sure that there's an interesting documentary on there to satisfy your obviously superior intelligence levels.

I have to agree with southen rose. There were very talented people there who didn't get through, I was lucky to get to see simon but I knew as soon as I walked into the room I wouldn't get through he looked me up and down and sighed and turned away before I even opened my mouth to sing. There was a girl after me who has an amazing voice but he said no because she sounded to much like alisa keys. Its all about image. the song I sang was the same one has the 40 year old lady who got through "when I fall in love" its on my web page, it was recorded for my grandad. I don't regret going to the audition because I know I sang well , I am only 16 and have plenty of time and it was a good experience.next time I will make sure not to call simon an arrogant pig on camera lol

Bollocks. I've got 5 firm favourites so far and 4 of them are from the over 24's group.

It's TV that many of us wish to tune in to.

I'm assuming that you won't tune in again in which case I hope to never have to read your posts on the X-Factor forum.

What an odd show with so many has been's that will not make it in the music industry, it strikes me as Bob Says Opportunity knocks or something.
I was pretty much an avid viewer of the PI series, Fame Acadmeny and Pop Rivals but to me this show seems like nonsense.
I cannot say that i have watched more than ten minutes of this show since it started, i just find it odd and i cannot quite put my finger on why.
I may try and see if i can get into the show but the format to me is of putting to say the least.

Michelle McManusis still with her label and is recording new material at the moment. Her record bosses are planning her comeback for later this year or early 2005.
