I could imagine her waltz, foxtrot etc being quite good. Her samba though?

I reckon she would have a genuine interest in learning to dance and yes I reckon her ballroom could be good.

She'll be in the same mould as Esther & Gloria- score well for her slow Ballroom's but lose points in latin.

It's the same every year, some people are chosen, not for their ability to dance, but just to be "controversial."

This show would be the poorer, without the "Pantomime Factor."

I think she'll take it more seriously than Ann and actually try and learn the dances instead of dictating what she wants them to be. I doubt she expects to go all the way though. I agree with the poster who said she'll probably be another Gloria Hunnicut or Esther Rantzen - I wouldn't imagine she'll be another Pamela Stephenson.

I'd say more an Esther Rancid.

They both like to be the centre of attention when anywhere near a TV camera.

I reckon aiming for a Cherie Lunghi would be as good as we could hope for

Why should she be a farce? I mean, yes she's getting on a bit, but what makes people think she'd automatically be rubbish?

I guess people are making the association of older + ex-politician = expected repeat of Widdy, but it looks to me like Russell Grant is expected to fill the 'loveable joker' space.

But widders wasn't rubbish because she was an old, unfit, female - or not just because of that.

Widders was rubbish mainly because she didn't want to dance. Widders being a politician was totally irrelevant.

So it doesn't make much sense to link them that way - in fact, it seems a little unfair to Edwina.

I know that Edwina certainly keeps herself fit, she is often in the paper for completing huge bike rides and runs etc.

She might not be at her fittest at the moment though:
Hiya ***waves***

From her interview -

What made you decide to take part in Strictly?

After being approached previously, I had second thoughts this summer, as I broke my ankle in January and was in plaster for weeks and then found it hard to get back up on my feet. For a while I got quite depressed about it and wondered if I might ever walk without a limp again. But slowly it has improved, and then came the invitation. I thought, really I should try, and if I can do it, then it might encourage other people who have had injuries or accidents (especially older people like myself) that they should get out of the chair and start dancing. Life is to live – to make the best of yourself – and to enjoy!

I find Edwina Currie a whole lot more likeable than Widdy.

She's also vey feisty- she threw a glass of water over John McRirrick in Wife Swap and during Hells Kitchen she gave Gordon Ramsay as good as she got. I can't remember whether it was Edwina or Amanda Barrie who slapped him?

That's how I see her too - maybe a little bit better than them, but that sort of level. Hope her ankle holds up. She's not a 'joke' contestant like AW.

Agreed. Although for all Widdecombe's faults - and God only knows they were many and varied - at least she didn't, ummm, do the horizontal tango with John Major.

Christ, there's an image I now wish I could remove from my mind.

I wish people would stop mentioning that unless they're handing out copious supplies of brain bleach at the same time!

I think she might be a bit like Christine Hamilton when she was on Celebrity Masterchef - and against every fibre of my being I actually liked her and grumped when she didn't win
