I liked your rant I'm prepared to give Amira a bit of benefit of the doubt, and give her post-natal depression (which would be logical), messing up her head. Sadly I think Daran's one dimensional woman-itis may have struck. BIB, this is my over-riding feeling about...well everything I have seen since last year. Essentially C+, could do better. Some interesting concepts with potential but not pulled off very well.

The thing is, the love stuff irritated me, not because I think 'oh no Syed might really care for Amira, threat to Chryed' and this breaks my heart, cos a), obvs no (and b) it doesn't), but just cos I don't feel the writing works. It just feels kind of blah and 'writing by numbers' for me. But I'm a mardy biatch so I dot expect anyone else to feel the same way, best for you all that you don't!

bon nuit, a toute a l'heure x”

I really liked Christian tonight He works so well when you see him with characters he doesn't normally interact with. Definitely felt like the Christian we know and love.”

Still don't understand how Jack can have forgiven Michael
Was fab to see Christian interacting with more characters....liked him and Kat talking, shame that scene was really all about Kalfie arguing beneath a veil of niceness....would have preferred just a chat between Christian and Kat

I can't comprehend how AWFUL that line was. "The only woman I've ever loved". FFS. As others have said, this line desperately implies partner love, romantic love, being in love. Syed would indeed be confused and find it difficult to articulate his love for a woman that fell outside of heterosexual affection but Christ, Daran could not have picked a worse line. It was like he was actively trying to not only confuse the viewer but contradict all past efforts to express the sexual and emotional shell which was Amira and Syed's relationship. "Where were you last night? You weren't there when I fell asleep." "I went to the cinema, by myself." or "It's just silent, we never talk" THIS is what happened. THIS is not the only woman you ever loved!

Whilst we're on the subject, since when was Amira that delusional? Yes she was always an avoider, she after all got herself into a marriage anyone could have seen was superficial nonsense (separate from knowing Syed was gay), yes in her current situation, she will fantasise and convince herself Syed is yet again her saviour - but come on, she actually thinks that Syed wants her back?? She's an educated modern (in the death to feminism sense) woman who, despite her confusing emotions, will know what being gay means. I'm almost insulted for her that she was painted in that way a year on. Daran really does love writing women as bitches or fools and if it didn't perpetuate more nonsense I'd shake it off as simply more sexism, but it does, so I can't. The 'Amira and Syed - will they reunite?' was as subtle as a brick and just the sort of crap I was afraid of. This would be a great if it was done in the right way - Amira as desperate yet knowing this wasn't right, Syed as guilty with a sense of duty and religious and cultural pressure - but so far, it's been reduced to 'love' and all the crap that goes with it. Sigh.

This was a long rant. Apologes.”

Don't apologise, I loved it and agree with every word

Fine, he can check her phone records- once a month. By the time she's gotten in contact with Syed, it'll be too late for Qadim to know?”

It is possible to get itemised bills online within a day or two of the calls being made (I do it to keep tabs on my daughter's phone) but yeah, I take your point What I don't get is, she's had a mobile and the land line all this time, and a laptop, so why hasn't she tried to get in touch with someone who could help her escape before now? As awful as being kept prisoner in her own home must be, it's clearly a more appealing prospect than having to stand on her two feet and work to buy
her own laptop /bitch

ETA: BIB- just to clarify for the benefit of any lurkers out there, I don't check my daughter's phone cos I'm holding her prisoner, I do cos she's 12 years old and I pay her phone bill

Wonderful post

If he really did feel love for Amira in a way that would suggest he wants to get back with her, then he wouldn't have told Christian.

I guess its like what I hear people say all the time. Just because you're with someone else, love them, want to be with then forever, doesn't mean that you don't still love one or more of your exes. Of course you still love them, and that's without the guilt that is mixed in with Syed's feelings. But that doesn't mean you'd ever get back with them, ever, doesn't mean that you don't want to be with the person you now love forever.

Syed wants Christian.

They will come out the other side together, whatever happens along the way.”

I agree totally

I think they'd be doing a disservice to all of the gay Muslims out there if they made it seem as though Syed could go back to Amira.”

another great post that sums up how i feel

But he isn't.

I don't think this will be another Christian vs. Amira situation. It's more complex than that. I think we'll see that when it comes to the actual episodes as opposed to these snippets, where really all they're trying to do is hook people into the storyline and get them interested (they know what might hook in the masses)

So, yeah, I'm focusing on the performances and the body language rather than the words. The numpties won't, but that's the numpties loss, not mine *shrugs*”

With out a doubt, the love shone out tonight

I do think whatever happens Chryed will come out the other side stronger than ever Syed may have loved Amira as a friend/sister....but he is gay and he loves Christian, it was true when he said it on 3rd December 09 and it's still true now Christian is the only one for him, and vice versa :./my attempt at (cheesy) optimism!! ”

Syed loves Christian full stop

I completely love that final Chryed scene on the undersized wicker sofa. Honestly, Syed's feelings are not ambiguous.”

no please bring back the sofa

BIB: Ahhh, me too. Its clear Chryed love each other, its clear Qadim wants Syed nowhere near Amira, baby or not, and now Masood has accepted it's Christian his son wants to be with. It's a month till we see ATO so it's surely more of an 'escape from dad' scenario than a "i must tell Syed I love him and het him back". Yusef will stir and Qadim will threaten but I'm not seeing love triangle either

So glad others on my wavelength! ”

I am on the same wave length as you as well

The only one he has loved as you are meant to love a erson you are attracted to

Odd for me as I can be such a pessimist but tonight really didn't bother me that much. I can see why it did for some though.

Just remember guys, Preeya is around for a short stint. Marc and Johnny are around for the duration so what ever they're about to go through, will sort its self out.

It goes without saying, I don't want either of thier characterisation to suffer over the next few months, just to accommodate Amira's return. It needs to be made abundantly clear to the audience that while Syed loves Amira - in his own way, he doesn't love her in a romantic way. Christian is the love of his life. He is the one who makes him stop breathing, gives him a jolt of electricity every time they touch, and heart feels like it’s ready to burst at the sight of him. ALL SYED's WORDS. Writers, please remind the viewers of this!

The worst case, but understandable, scenario would be Syed feeling a sense of duty to Amira and his child. He also bears a lot of guilt over what happened and will bear even more when he finds out how she's been living her life these past 18 months. I can see Yusef twisting the knife, Christian heartbroken and Syed torn between his love his duty. Yes, there may be a bit of backwards step with Chryed. I suspect it but I feel, if well written it can be excellent. It's not just Amira anymore. A child changes everything. However, I don't think even a child will be big enough to split the pair up. They will both get hurt but their love will find it's way back to one another.”

utterly with you x
