iPlayer on Technisat HDFV
rjropes
07-09-2011
Hi,

I have a Technisat HDFV box, and the optional wireless pack which allows it to connect up to the Internet.

I have connected it to the wireless, and gone to the bbc channels and pressed the red button, but the iPlayer option is not here, there is only the teletext that appears.

I have ensured that I have enabled the interactive channel.

The version of the software on the box is from April 30th 2010.

I live in Swansea, SA2 7AX.

On contacting the technical support, I have been informed that all should be working, and that it must be the fact that iPlayer is not available in my region.

Can someone confirm whether I'm being spun a line here?

Also, anyone any ideas why this isn't working?

Thanks

Richard

I've now been informed that iPlayer is not part of the firmware that the HDFV is running, and that there is not an update with these features planned for the near future.

Sadly, I doubt there will ever be another update for this box

Technisat's website promoting the HDFV still clearly states that it will allow for access of iPlayer etc. But I too have had an email from technisat saying they will not support it. This is clearly a case of misleading advertising - yes?

Technisat have confirmed that the HDFV does not, and will not, support iPlayer. They claim the description their website was a "mistake" But they still haven't corrected it. I have reported them to ASA and Trading Standards.

Anyone still reading this thread? No? Well never mind. I reported Technisat to the ASA and they very promptly contacted Technisat and the misleading statement about iPlayer has been removed. Result! Trading Standards are also working with their German counterpart to determine if further action can be taken. So it does pay to complain.

What amazes me is just how many of the "trused"/"expert" review sites obviously haven't really reviewed stuff like this, they just trot out the claims from the manufacturers' websites.
