Steak Suggestions
I've got a couple of really nice pieces of steak in the fridge that need eating. Any suggestions for what I could do with them? Suggestions for homemade sauces, accompaniments etc?

Personally I think steak is one of those things that speaks for itself, it doesn't need any sauces.
What I do is rub both sides of the steak in olive oil then get an OXO cube and sprinkle it onto both sides and rub it in. Then I use a griddle pan to cook it to however you want it. It's really simple but tasty. If you want a sort of relish on the side my favourite is a pepper and onion combo. basically just slow fry some onions and peppers until they are soft and sweet, stir in a couple of spoonfuls of sundried tomato pesto and season. It makes a nice side relish and tastes good to dip chips into. |

Cut them into strips and stir-fry them with some vegetables, soy sauce and noodles.

My fave at the moment is steak and salad. I was going to post some suggestions but this site has loads and most of the ones I would suggest. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/se...B0%5D=b006v5y2 |

Not sure how you can dismiss sauces but slather an oxo cube all over a steak. It's still adding/changing the flavour.

I like to interfere with a good steak as little as possible.
For us a 'good' steak is seasoned, spinkled with a little extra virgin olive oil, griddled and served with chips, homemade coleslaw and salad [or mash and garlic green beans] |

I haven't had a good steak in ages - I have had some bad steaks (damn home delivery) but not had a good steak. But with a good steak I would brush some olive oil, sprinkle a bit of sea salt and cracked black pepper, griddle (for how long you want)
I do like a sauce sometimes try this site for many steak sauce recipes |

Steak is best served plain with salad and choice of potatoes. Just do not cook your steak straight from the fridge, give it an hour out of the fridge first

Usually I will have a steak as it comes. Today I thought I'd cook it with a sauce for a change

I love to slice some Stilton, lay it on top of the steak and grill for a few mins...stinks to high heaven, but tastes good!

The cube just seasons it though, it's not the same as a sauce.

I'm with degsy on this, a decent sauce can enhance the flavour, especially when made with the meat juices. Whilst the steak's resting, I like to de-glaze the pan with red wine, garlic, Rosemary, finely chopped shallots and a little beef stock. Then reduce it down and pour over the steak.

Season, rub with olive oil and cook it in the hottest thing you can find, preferably cast iron.

For good quality meat like steak I don't think sauces are needed - the meat should have sufficient flavour.Burgers and stuff - yep - a suce is great
For me, plain and simple with just a dab of english mustard on the side to go with my wedges |
