She made 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' in 1998 and hasn't really done much since! Why?

There could be numerous reasons. That ONE album was so epic that all the eyes were on her and I don't think she was ok with that so maybe she just wanted to get out of the limelight. Also, maybe she had no more inspiration and Lauryn is a real artist, so she wouldn't churn out nonsense with no substance or cohesion. Moreover, it's possible that she wanted to focus on her family. She just gave birth to her 6th child, I believe. She is said to be recording a new album for the past 6-7 months and she's currently doing some major concerts and being on huge festivals like Coachella.

She has said that she is working on a new album herself (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0HgR-bAfrk).Until then, there was a compilation album (unofficial, I think) with some material she had recorded after "The Miseducation".I don't recall the name, but maybe Wikipedia mentions it.I remember a song, though, called "Repercussions" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc-fPC4SXuo) that was an unreleased track from some old studio sessions.Anyway, she looks better than she ever has right now and she lost the pregnancy weight very easily. She performed covers on TV a lot during the winter, so I think she's pretty much ready...

She's lazy, rich, unable to focus on work and can't stay sober long enough to try according to Wyclef regarding the failed Fugees reunion sessions several years ago. Her tours have became notorious for turning up late, singing few songs without bursting into tears, her attempts to arrange half written songs onstage halfway through the show rather than in rehearsal and generally acting like an unorganised fool. So it's probably for the best she's not in the public eye anymore, she basically is doing an Amy Winehouse but with kids involved.

Lyrically it's definetely going to be different, but when it comes to the music I think it will be along the lines of 'The Miseducation' if her concerts are anything to go by.She seems to still love this kind of music, so that's what she's going to do most probably.

There was many reasons, the main one being that she didn't want her record label telling her which direction she should be going: http://music-mix.ew.com/2010/06/29/l...ill-interview/. Listen to the lyrics of her Unplugged album to understand more.

LOL!If that was true, then how come her unreleased songs get airplay as soon as they leak? After more than a decade, people are still anticipating her comeback and she still sells out big venues, so her 5 minutes must be REALLY long...

Its a massive shame things worked out this way for Lauryn. She probably would have been one of the biggest selling female artists in history had she released more material. Talent like her's being wasted is so sad.

I don't believe we'll ever get another album. Purely because its been so long and we've been waiting and waiting like this before.

I know I am the same. This topic has just relighted my love for such an amazing lady.

Have you heard her MTV Unplugged album?

Erm she never even said that comment. It was aload of bullshit.

I echo one of the above posters. Its very sad her career went no where just as she was about to become a superstar. Her moment has passed now so even if another album come, which I think while she is alive is unlikely , I can't see it being as successful as TMEOLH was.

Hm, Lauryn Hill has more musical talent in her little finger than the likes of Nicki Manaj etc.

Doo Wop for example, happens to be one of the finest hip hop songs ever created.

Lauryn Hill > 99% of female artists

it was a pretty good album to be fair. my favourite song was ex-factor. such a great song. quite a shame that she didn't follow it up. maybe some artists only have one good album in them? i think people underestimate the pressures artists put on themselves to deliver the best music possible.

there have been shocking rumours about her over the years. truly extraordinary things claimed. controversy seemed to always follow her around, as did awful rumours. i remember when she was in the fugees, there was a terrible rumour that she had died, that went around the globe.

i guess there is little wonder, why she struggles to find the motivation to make a musical return.

I don't think Lauryn ever adjusted to fame

If anyone ever checks out her amazing Unplugged album, i would urge any Lauryn fans too. She pretty much gives small cryptic hints top why she ducked out the limelight and she pretty much to had to find herself and realise what she wanted to do. She is inspiring in small ways through that album.

Lauryn is easily the best black female singer since Whitney Houston and its a massive shame she pulled herself out of the limelight just as she was on the verge of something huge.

I guess it just goes to show how much fame can scare a person.
