Slow Cooker Tips and Recipes.
I have just bought a slow cooker from John Lewis and it doesn’t have any good information with it except instructions so I would love some tips and advice.
I have got a boned shoulder of Pork and would like to cook it in the slow cooker but have no idea how to do it. Anyone got any good recipes using the slow cooker or cook book reccomendations? Thank you in advance.

Gives me the perfect excuse to roll out my favourite slow cooker recipe. And what do you know...it uses pork shoulder! I chuck some chilli flakes in as well for a bit of background heat.

Bung it in the slow cooker with loads of veg, cover in cider, stock or water, season and add herbs, put it on high until it's hot, then turn to low. Go out for the day. Come back and eat. Use left over liquid as a base for soup (let it cool, put in fridge for fat to solidify, lift off fat and it's a great base - but can be salty if you use ham)

We got one of these a few weeks ago, first thing we did was:
Pulled Pork! I used this recipe: http://traceysculinaryadventures.blo...lled-pork.html The spice rub makes it taste out of this world. |

Thanks for all the replies.
So far we have done pork in cider and pulled pork and they were delicious! Also bought a hamyln book of recipes and have tried a couple of sausage dishes which were really really nice too! It also might be the first year in my family ever we don't let the pan boil dry when steaming the christmas pudding as it's going in the slow cooker. |

That recipe looks good...What is the equivalent of a cup?
http://www.recipes4us.co.uk/conversion_charts.htm Have to say though, I just use that recipe as a guide now and more to remember the list of ingredients rather than the quantities. For my tastes, it needs a little more vinegar than the recipe states. |

Any recipe using a sauce can be cooked in the slow cooker. Just make it as you would normally and tip it all into the slow cooker and leave. Yesterday morning I made our favourite chicken curry recipe out of my Madhur Jaffrey book, tipped it into the SC, turned it to medium and went to work

I like to cook chicken in my crockpot. I just throw the whole chicken in with herbs and spices. It doesn't need any liquid it makes it own. Plenty of recipes online.

Is a crockpot the same as a slow cooker? I would have thought liquid was always necessary.

Try lots of things in it, they really are wonderful. There's nothing quite like walking into your house after a long day at work and smelling your dinner cooking in the slow cooker.
