^ Well I told you she was/is going to be massive.

For those of you not aware, she is the first music act signed by manager Troy Carter (the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Coalition Media Group who used to work with Will Smith & Sean “Diddy” Combs), since he signed some artist you might have heard of ...... Lady Gaga.

Crucially, rather than rely on the Haus of Gaga he has hired the PR company instrumental in the initially high music internet buzz viral/low media performances appearances profile of some artist you might of heard of this year ...... Adele.

Failure was never an option.

So that's what all the hipster gnashing of teeth is all about I know she's effectively Interscope's property but I've never seen anything about Troy Carter being her manager. Maybe I've not been looking hard enough or is it still an industry secret?

I love her music, but I can't stand her awful lip injections. Look up photographs of her when she was known as Lizzy Grant. So sad that she thought she needed them to be famous.

I agree but my hope is they will eventually return to normal (or near it). One thing I will predict - they aint going to stop her from being next year's breakout artist.

I didn't know about her management when I said I didn't think she'd be hugely successful. She'll probably do well on second thoughts . I don't know how much criticism she's getting but I think some people get annoyed when a promising new artist comes along and then it turns out they've got a whole team behind them choreographing everything and putting them on the fast track to success. Some people don't like that kind of manufacturing of an artist.

Old Jools is a wily, salty old sea dog, isn't he? It's pretty clear that Ms Del Rey has a very big chance of being the big new star of 2012 and he manages to get her to make her first ever live appearance on TV on his show. The man is a legend. He's got form for this sort of thing, of course. I remember watching (drunk with only one eye open) in 2007 when this singer I'd never heard of before sobered me up with her performance.

I think Jools Holland last had his finger on the pulse about 15 years ago but someone working on his show is keeping up with music hype on the Internet .

You're probably right but I reckon on this one it was down to him. In the introduction he explains he saw her on a German TV show the other week that he was also on so I would imagine he invited her on the show personally? It matters not, I suppose, I'm just glad someone invited her.

Nah, she's been talked about in the blogosphere for months so people working on the show would have been planning to get her on for a while. I'm sure Jools like her and some other new artists he has on but he's not the one who finds them. It's a good night for Jools if he pronounces the names of the new artists correctly when introducing them.

Lol. I recall he had an awful time pronouncing Metronomy a few weeks ago.

PS Another great track

I love Video Games and Blue Jeans, although VG is my favourite.

I wish people would stop going on about her lips. It's boring.

I'm also wondering who started the massive internet hate campaign against her - Carles of Hipster Runoff was one of the first, but I bet it was a former boyfriend or rival that started it. It's been vicious.

I'm a (new) big fan and I find the subject fascinating and this being a discussion forum and all. She'll have the last laugh on the haters when the album drops next year, I reckon. Big things going to happen in 2012. I read Carles' blog a couple of weeks ago and it really is vicious in the extreme.

The hate campaign is so petty and all it boils down to is snobbery on behalf of these bloggers. It is all because these "cool" bloggers who love "real" music were "tricked" into thinking Lana was "one of their own." They were the ones hyping her to the moon at the start and now they feel betrayed as it has since emerged she is signed to a major label and has been trying to break into the business for years under her real name of Lizzie Grant without much success. Her transformation into Lana Del Rey has been carefully constructed by her label.
Personally, I don't give a hoot about any of this. I love her image now(minus the lips) and her voice and songs are amazing so that is surely the most important thing.

Sounds interesting. Bobby Womack is my all time favourite male soul vocalist.

Quote:
“Lana Del Rey collaborating with Damon Albarn, Bobby Womack

Some acts might think collaboratng with Gorillaz/Blur head Damon Albarn would be worth making a big deal out of. But for up and coming songbird Lana Del Rey, the honor is reserved to a simple tweet from earlier this afteroon. In the aforementioned message, Del Rey wrote, “Love the song I’ve done w Richard Russell, Damon Albarn and Bobby Womack.” She may be cavalier, but we’re anxiously awaiting the release of that effort; as always, stay tuned.”

I know I'm virtually talking to myself here (nothing new, lol) but Lana's EP has just hit #1 on UK iTunes. Fantastic.

I happen to agree! It's already a classic IMO.

The original just can't be bettered IMO (Bombay Bicycle Club murdered it in Live Lounge earlier this week IMO). Best cover of it I've heard so far, amazingly, is by Mr Cullum.

Same PR company as Adele ?

The song is ok. Could be a grower

However Lana herself has me interested. She seems different and slightly unique. I am eager to see what sound she delves into with her debut album. I have a feeling she could be one of the ones to watch for 2012.

You'd have to ask maninthqueue, he seems to know. I haven't managed to find any details confirming either her manager or PR company and maninthequeue hasn't posted on here since I sort of queried it. And as you know I'm usually pretty good at ferreting out stuff from the web. Perhaps you could have a 'butchers' for us?
