Foxsat HDR Question?
Rolandh
10-09-2011
I've just got a 500GB Humax Foxsat-HDR as a replacement for a Sagem DTR94500S that I've had since Thursday due to it constantly crashing and wondered if there is any third party addon software PC based or Foxsat based that will improve the user experience of the HDR?

You could investigate Raydon's modded firmware.

Is the modded firmware just a customized version of the official firmware, as I'm not sure about Installing the firmware just yet as I can't see anything wrong with the latest official firmware as I've only been using the box for a short while, but the AV2HDR seems a pretty nifty piece of software though.

Raydon's addons are addons, they are started as part of the HDR's boot process before Humax's application and have no impact on the user interface - they for example -
- make the disk accessible via ftp, as a Windows share
- make the recordings available via a DLNA server (not encrypted recordings).

Release 4 of the software is due for release by the end of the month.

Ok, I'll have to give it a go at some point, it's just that the modded firmware part of gomezz reply made me think it was physical firmware and not just an addon.

What's the difference between the 1.00.13 firmware that was pre-installed on my HDR and the newer 1.00.15 firmware that was downloaded when I was setting up my HDR. I never got a chance to use the old 1.00.13 firmware to find out the difference?

I have the non-HDR, but believe the differences are as follows:-

1.00.15 recovers after a power cut, therefore scheduled/booked recordings are not erased. (With the old software, the box would lose all recording schedule after a power cut). If low-power standby is disabled, therefore the clock is shown on the Humax's display, box will recover to show the correct time, instead of --:--.
1.00.15 auto updates itself at 03:00am, so you no longer get the channel update prompt, because the box does all "housekeeping" at 03:00am (provided the box is not disconnected at the mains, of course).
With my non-HDR Foxsat, I found that even if the box was last used in non-Freesat mode, if the power is disconnected at the mains, the box will always show Freesat mode when next powered up. (If turned to standby only, the Humax will return to the last channel selected, even if in non-Freesat mode).

Thanks for that changelog, I'm sure someone will correct you that has got an HDR if you're wrong.

Small correction - 1.00.13 did not loose the schedule BUT did not set a wake up after power loss. So it would not resume to record until it had been powered up.
However if power restored after power loss it would always resume the previous power state before power lost [On or Standby, Standby being a problem].
