Too heavy for you, or the airline? I would have thought YOU would be the best judge if it's too heavy or not. Check the specs and weight of the laptop. Laptops etc can be taken through with hand luggage, so check the allowance for your particular airline.

Never heard of anywhere you could rent a laptop.

You could get yourself a wheeled carry-on case that has a zipped pocket for a laptop. Failing that a wheeled case that you could attach a laptop case to.

IMO big laptops are a PITA for air travel considering they have to be unpacked every time to go through security.

your hand luggage limit is around 8 to 10kg I believe and laptop definitely weighs less then that. It also fits inside the standard carry on size luggage cases. So technically there is nothing stopping you taking it. Though of course its up to you to decide if its too heavy. My mrs has a 17" laptop and there is no way she would take it on a long trip carry it, I don't have a problem doing that.
