Torchwood (or Jack at least) back in 2012?

Seems a message appeared after the end credits of the TW MD finale in Australia stating.
Jack will be Back January 2012

Seems far too early for a new series (and with no offical word) so I'm guessing the channel may just be showing repeats of other TW series'.

That's a very strange thing to say if it is referring to repeats, but I think you're right about it being too soon.

I expect he'll be back in some way in the next year or so, in one or both series.

Maybe, but Fringe season 3 ended in the US 06/May/11
and it returns for season 4 in the US on 23/Sep/11

STARZ have a channel in Australia to, they've been getting the episodes before us the entire time, same goes for Canada, it airs last in the UK.

Nothing against Jack returning but only if they have a good story for him, not just to please the actor.

That's a standard break for a 22-ish episode US production schedule, but it'd be extremely short for a 10 episode production with a questionable US future.

Dwonline are reporting on Twitter there could be a new series as early as January 2012. RTD already seems to be writing it.

If there is a new series in January (which, I have to say, I doubt) they better make individual stories, with possibly one arc, instead of one long drawn out story.

It seems strange that this message didn't appear at the end of the US showing (that is, assuming it didn't).

It seems like Doctor Who Online is now having a bit of a row with Doctor Who Monthly on twitter in regards this issue... :o

Basically DWM were questioning the story that DWO had posted and claimed it was misleading. They seem to think that the reason the caption appeared in Aussie version was because they are repeating the prior series of Torchwood in the New Year, and feel DWO should have verified this before running a news story. It got a bit heated!

They seem to have made up now...:p

    FIGHT!

This actually sounds reasonably promising... with the apparent lack of Who for the early part of next year, I'm really hopeful that they can put together another Torchwood series to fill the gap.

Could it be possible that we will be getting a Torchwood New Year Special? Doctor Who has a Christmas special, so maybe they thought Torchwood should have a new year special?

In all honesty, it sounds to me like DWO have jumped the gun on this issue, because I tend to think DWM would tend to have an idea of if filming/a renewal was imminent.

For Miracle day, filming started in Jan this year (according to wikipedia), so even if filming had started it would be too late for Jan. (based on 6mths from start of filming to showing...

The earliest I would guess would be this time next year (on screen), if there is anything.

When I saw the original caption on TV I just assumed that's what it meant.

Anyone still taking the idea seriously that they are putting together a new series or even a new year special before January just needs to remember that John Barrowman is on a UK tour from October 19th until November 24th and then in pantomime in Glasgow from December 17th until January 7th 2012. Assuming that the time between these two commitments is likely to be taken up with rehearsals for the panto, that leaves him with about 7 weeks free between now and the end of January. I know he's a workaholic but I don't think even he could work that kind of punishing schedule.

Have to say I'm with DMW on this one, Online really did post a very misleading article (http://news.drwho-online.co.uk/Series-5-of-Torchwood-for-January-2012.aspx) and their attempts to defend it are, frankly, pretty weak. "stating it was unlikely" isn't how I read the news article they published at all, they just said it might be " cutting things a little close". Really hate when websites do this, if you're a big site that a lot of people rely on you need to hold your content to a high standard and react in a professional manner when called on mistakes.

Lets just hope that if there is a new series in 2012 it needs to be a lot better than miracle day and i would like to say no involvement from the good old US of A. Being as RTD and JG are based in the US that's probably very unlikely.

I would like to see the format of COE again though, a short series with a big event story.

I'm thinking RTD would like another 2 year gap, like there was between CoE and MD. What the networks think about that we'll have to see.

I guess it all depends on the final numbers for the series.

I can't see how they can go any bigger in scale than Miracle Day or Children of Earth.

I didnt like the ending of Miracle Day.

Actually, there was nothing misleading at all about our article. It was clearly titled "Series 5 of Torchwood for January 2012?" - note the question mark.

We were analysing the misleading teaser at the end of the BBC Australia airing, and coupling it with some comments that RTD made back in June, where he states he knows what he wants the next series to be about.

We clearly state that it is unlikely that the show would return in time for January 2012.

The jumping of the gun, has only been from a couple of people who either didn't read the article fully, or decided to make their own version of what they *think* we were saying.

The news item was newsworthy as we had been emailed by lots of fans asking what BBC Australia meant with the teaser. The item is noncommittal, and at no point to we claim the rumour is true.

Will Captain Jack appear in Doctor Who anytime in the near future? He doesn't know yet that the Doctor has regenerated, so it sets up the old "hey you've regenerated" scene.
