You seem to have misunderstood my post.

I would agree with you if their accents were consistant, but they aren't, the over-exaggerated "northern vowel sounds" come and go. So it is an affectation.
Many people in TV working in the south for many years lose their original accents, either by association or design.

You don't think Cilla Black talks the way she does away from the cameras do you?

I can't gauge the inconsistency to which you refer, perhaps I am too close to at least one of the accents in question, but then I'd have thought that would give me better insight if anything.

As to Cilla's accent you'd be better asking Liverpudilans. Or people who know Cilla. Or Cilla.

Although originally from the south I've worked in several areas of North Manchester for the best part of forty years, so I can recognise an "affected accent" when I hear one.
I wouldn't have mentioned it if I couldn't.

I quoted Cilla Black as a typical example, I don't need to ask her or anyone about her.

I really don't want to start pulling rank about who's best qualified to assess the local parlance (although I reckon that would be me FWIW), and WRT Cilla I was just trying to inject a bit of humour, clearly wasting my time. BTW, Tess isn't from North Manchester (edit. she's from Hadfield, which is in Derbyshire). I am, yet we speak alike. Go figure.

"Pulling rank?"
Get over yourself!

I passed an opinion directed at no one in particular, based on personal observations,

When I say "North Manchester," that includes Oldham Rochdale and all the other satellite cities and towns.

You can have your own opinion on anything, why should I care?
Just don't try to change mine.

By the way, I couldn't see any "humour" in your comments. Unless you think smilies are humorous.

Apologies to the rest of you for my part in this thread going off topic and becoming unecessarily argumentative. I've now put DR on ignore.

That's rather unnecessary.
You could have just ignored my original post, there was no need to quote it.
But you did, just to tell me I was wrong.in having an opinion contrary to your own.

I'll ignore any of your posts not directed at me by just scrolling down. You could have done that, It's so easy.

I like Tess most of the time and i think she is the right person to present, however an example the other night when Brendan picked Lulu up and went off without speaking to Tess, she looked worried and panicky while looking around not sure what to do, i just thought for god sake woman laugh, it was funny! or if she didn't find it funny then she could've rolled her eyes about Brendan. So in that sense she isnt a natural presenter but she does the job.

Such a situation emphasises what I said earlier.
She's most comfortable when reading the auto-cue.
If an unforseen or unscripted situation occurs, then she's out of her comfort zone.

Sorry i must've missed your earlier post, but yes that is right she's completely out of it, whereas plenty of other presenters, even Bruce fgs, are fine when they have to do it.
