I don't mind LG being tired but I don't understand/like her being mean to MrsT. She should feel sorry for her instead. She can hardly feel threatened by her.
It is hard to imagine LG being mean to anyone, however, most people can only be pushed so far. And, Mrs. Tishell has been mean to LG since she came back to the village six months pregnant!

I've only watched once (so far) but I thought LG seemed a bit distressed when she found out that DM was going to stick around for two months. So that seems to fit with your observation. But why would it upset her? Wouldn't the change of plans be welcome? Don't understand that, as yet.

As far as LG's antagonism to Mrs. T goes -- Mrs. T. has been downright nasty to her. I don't see why she should be on any kind of terms with her beyond bare requirements of civility.
Staying 2 months longer: She is living in his house, she thought that would be there only for a few weeks. She probably wants to be in her own house. He told her in front of someone else. If she had known about the 2 months maybe she would have made a different decision about moving in with him. She couldn't have known about the 2 months, but probably frustrating at the same time. Maybe she wants to raise her child alone, and give him a dummy if she wants to.

LG is exerting her independence more in this series, and I love it, even when she makes a misstep. She told Joan that maybe she should start to be a little more independent so she got a taxi that day.

A woman got all up in my baby's face one time like that and I told her to back off. She told me I was rude, as a new mom I didn't give a sh*t. Those early days were an emotional roller coaster.

I hope they don't make a DM over here. But it might happen because it may be hard for BP to turn down the money. It's unfortunate, I wouldn't like it to happen, but might be inevitable.

Oliver Platt, who plays Laura Linney's husband on The Big C on Showtime could play the role. He is a little heavier than MC, but he can play comedy and also show vulnerability at the same time.

I just wouldn't want them to get a super young woman to play LG.

I still think this show is a little bit like The Andy Griffith Show. Andy wasn't a transplant or cranky, but the show was so funny and poignant at the same time. He also had an on/off relationship with the librarian, not contentious, it was a softer relationship. And both were the sanest people in the town. Andy Griffith was a great great show, and people watch it over and over and know the shows by heart. At least some of my friends. If I told them that DM might be as good as that they would be skeptical to say the least. For those who don't know the show, it was broadcast here in the 60's, and has been syndicated for all these years.

It is interesting to read everyone's different take on scenes. I didn't see her as being so upset as surprised. She seemed to be more concerned as to whether it was ok with him.
Also Mrs. T has really been awful to LG since she can back to the village so I'm glad she's standing up to her. But all Mrs. T has to do is start being nice again and LG will forgive her. You know how she is.

Mrs. T began her odd behavior towards LG when DM/LG became engaged. In S3E6, Mrs. T had heard the news and was in a daze when DM/LG arrived at the pharmacy. She made some comments to them about things ending badly when 2 women are in love with the same man and then she sort of congratulated LG on the engagement, fiercely grabbed her hand a begged LG to "look after him well". LG had to really pull her hand back hard to get it out of Mrs. T's firm grip. Jealousy in full swing!

Does anyone else think IMcN is chubbier this season? Poor guy.
Yes, and it seems like I remember in series 2 or 3, ( I'm not sure which) he seemed thinner. And, I was happy for him.

I have been thinking lately that an idea for MC for a future one-time story on tv would be for a spoof on the American cowboy westerns with him playing a sheriff and having him ride around with a large brown horse, similar to his beloved Chester.[/QUOTE]

Hmmm, interesting, Marchrand. Perhaps we could set it in Dorset or Devon so MC could go home every night, but not too close to his home as to be intrusive...he's a divorced professional - a journalist perhaps - who's inherited a smallholding and hasn't a clue how to run it. In other words, a "luvvie farmer". Takes a job at a local paper (Dorset Echo) and meets the inhabitants human and animal.
OK, sounds derivative - "The Shipping News" meets "Green Acres"...but I bet BP could make it clever and funny!

You could have him be a divorced teacher instead. I expect there would be lots of comedy mileage in having even the local children that he's supposed to be teaching know more about farming than he does. It does depart a bit from the 'Sheriff' thing though

Also, as far as sinister, the scene when LG came back pregnant and went into the shop, Mrs. T was so menacing to her that you were grateful AJ showed up. And what Mrs T seemed to be doing was telling the baby how good it was that his Dad refused to marry his Mom. No wonder LG got upset. I'd have decked her.

Has Mrs T's permanent neck brace ever been explained, or is it just 'one of those things'? Perhaps she's had a succession of new mothers jam a pram hood down over her head during the course of her lifetime

Did you all ever see the movie castaway with Tom Hanks? I can see MC doing a movie like that. Especially when he is able to build a fire after laboriously rubbing 2 sticks together,
then has a huge bonfire and proudly announces (to no-one) while beating his chest that He Made Fire!

I can just see him in a dramatic role like that.

Haha, yes they do explain it in series two. I think she prolapsed a disc or something like that. She loved it when the Doc had to wrap his big hands around her neck. The look on her face is priceless. Although this is Mrs. T...that may not have been her first pram slamming!

I agree, but like Copperhill said, it was just a way to pass the time. I can't imagine any Doc Martin fan wanting an American version.
Agreed. Trust me, as an American, the last thing I want to see is a US version of Doc Martin. It's just wrong.

I love Mowenna's laugh & look on her face when LG tells Mrs T that she thought she had some but couldn't find them...lol

Nothing worse when someone (especially someone who doesn't have kids themselves) gives you advise on your baby. Happened to me with a friend telling me when my first Daughter was a newborn.

Spoiler

As I said in one of my previous posts, it would have been good to see DM/LG conversation after she follows him into his consulting room. Now we will see them in Ep3 on Monday night & nothing been said.

Just watched E2 for the second time. Hmmmm... first, Eileen Atkins is great. Better chemistry between her and DM than AJ and DM, I think. He is much more human with her than he was with AJ.

I don't think he was he was particularly nice to LG and -- "this house stinks of regurgitated breast milk" indeed! What kind of a thing is that for a new father to say? Are we setting up for a scenario in which we'll be rooting for LG to hand him his hat? All very odd.

Eileen Atkins left me cold. I didn't see as much subtext as I expected from an experienced actress. I am hopeful that a Ben Bolt script will rectify that.

I am surprised about your comments about the chemistry b/w DM and AJ.

The breast milk line was mean and selfish and uncaring. It is incongruent with his constant requests for her to quit her job and move away with him. We can only be pulled in so many directions as an audience.

Reguritated breast milk; baby fussy all the time equals reflux to me. As a doctor, he should be able to diagnose this, although he is not a pediatrician.

Maybe episode 3 will start where episode 2 left off? And, we'll get to see what Louisa and Martin were going to say about "2 more months". I hope!

The way I saw it, totally my interpretation, was he was embarrassed and thrown by Aunt Ruth's unexpected hug. Being unable to come to grips with displays of gratitude or emotion, he just threw something out there to deflect the situation. Not to say what he said was kind at all, I just don't think the intent was 100% malicious. Again, my interpretation, you may well be right and he was being a turd.
