The subtitles are funny, I agree - and very distracting. I'm so fascinated by them at times and how inaccurate they are I forget to 'listen'. I can't understand though how they are allowed to go out like that...often big chunks missed out too. Really not worthwhile having on (except for a giggle!). I assume they're using some form of pallantype - phonetics to produce them but wouldn't it be possible for an edit and polish before the programme goes live....? Can't be that difficult. I feel sorry for anyone who really relies on them.

thanks for that. they seem to use respeaking mostly for live work, but stenography (phonetics) for the recorded work. was interesting to see behind the scenes.
