Nice and all, but a lack of imagination from McD's with another limited edition burger with cheese, bacon and caramelised onions.

I like it, always nice to have a bit of a change from them. Not as nice as the chorizo one from the other month though.

I'm surprised they still have burgers left over from 1955!

Too bad it's not 1955 prices

On the Big Mac's 30th birthday, they rolled back prices to 1968 levels, charging 49 cents for a big mac (that's 31p).

Had one of these at the weekend and I was massively unimpressed. Maybe I was unlucky but I got no bacon and I had the tiniest little bit of sauce. That said, the sauce I did have was quite nice.

I'd love a job in the McDonalds limited edition burger coming up with department, if it exists. The people they have there have no imagination.

Seconded. Mine was basically a bit like a slightly cold, smoky flavoured beef frisbee which didn't fit in the (admittedly better than usual) sesame bun. I had too much bacon, for which read two strips of mainly fat, which I discarded.

But what most put me off was that the thinnish burger was too wide for the bun so you inevitably ended up eating burger on its own, and on its own it didn't taste very good...

I bought one of those chorizo ones the other week on the way home. I got home, chomped into it. Distinct lack of chorizo type flavour, so I opened it to find bacon. Less than impressed.

I imagine McDonalds research and experience suggests that customers want fairly unimaginative burgers which is why they produce them.

Probably right. That along with keeping production costs down as well as it obviously needing to be easily transportable. For example, I make a whopping spicy lamb burger at home with asparagus and purple sprouting broccoli cooked in garlic, chilli and emmental cheese on top. Apart from the fact that 99% of McD's customers wouldn't know what it was/wouldn't want to eat it, it'd probably cost a fortune to produce and would be a nightmare logistically.

That said, a little adventure wouldn't hurt. I love burgers and I love playing about with them to make them more interesting, different flavours, etc. etc., that's why having a bog standard beef patty in a cheesy bap with slightly different sauce (for example) doesn't really do it for me.

I didn't like the smoky sauce on this burger, much preffered the chorizo one from a few weeks back.

When you look at Mcdonalds regular menu it is quite unimaginative:

- Hamburger
- Cheeseburger
- Double Cheeseburger
- Quarter pounder with Cheese
- Big Mac (double cheeseburger with lettuce and "special sauce"

- "Special burger" that usually consists of cheese, bacon and a special sauce.

Compared to BK, McDonalds menu is very lazy, at least with BK they have burgers with items such as Mushrooms and peppers, not to mention better quality burgers - The Angus range.

But they do what they do well (or so it seems as people keep eating there and they are very successful).

There's a thread on here somewhere about McD throughout the world. There's a lot of burgers/options that I would like to try but they don't do them here or outside the specific country.

Yes I agree Mcdonalds are totally lazy and unimaginative, I also prefer the BK range too but the problem is that there range is expensive compared to McDonalds and there are more McDonalds restaurants.

BK need to lower their prices to become more competitive with McD's. Saying that I find that KFC is the most expensive for what you get.

McD's may be sucessful but that still doesn't stop them being lazy with new ideas and recipes.

McD's seem to think a burger with bacon (or what they call bacon) is something special and to get excited about. they obviously still haven't cottoned onto BK's Bacon cheeseburger that has been going for years as a regular menu item.

Had one on Saturday: not sure what I was expecting but it was nothing special and I won't be having another one.

Yeah, and the milkshake dispenser was on the blink - I was most unhappy.

They're more expensive here too. The value meals usually run about a dollar more than McDonalds.

They used to be pretty competitive. The Whopper used to be 99 cents... now the Whopper Jr is 99 cents.

I usually just go to Wendy's or In-n-Out... haven't been to BK in years.

The closest BK to me is 12 and half miles away. But McDonald's seems to be everywhere so I think this has a lot to do with their success, saturating the market as it were. Plus the pricing.

I have only ever had on BK in my life, I was much younger and I wasn't impressed. But my tastes have changed a lot since then and would probably try them again one day.

I wouldn't call it lazy. They cater for what their customers want. You can't argue with the fact they make huge profits compared to Burger King.
