I've just ordered BT Vision and Broadband, and the site says I should achieve a broadband speed of 2-5.5mb with an average of 3mb. Will this be fast enough??

BT have said I need an engineer visit to improve my speed but other people seem to be ok with 2mb.

You need a download speed of 2.2meg for streaming Vision SD on demand services. Don't confuse that with the normal liveTV services which come through the Freeview aerial.
