I've had this problem crop up a couple of times recently.

I am watching a recording. I pause the recording to go and do something. I come back and press play. The picture remains frozen but the audio starts up again. The only way to solve the problem seesm to be to turn everything off or change the TV input source and when I come back to the Humax input all seems OK. This has happened twice and both were HD recordings. Not sure if this is relevant.

Seems like you have a screensaver activated in your TV.

Very odd - normally on an HD channel when you press pause the video stops immediately but the audio continues for a couple of seconds due to the different decoding going on. When you press play again the video starts immediately and after a couple of seconds the audio catches up and resumes. But the picture should begin immediately. It's just an idea, but have you tried using another HDMI cable ?
Maybe if you could state the make/model of your TV you will get more feedback.
Also what programmes were they that this happened on?

Do you have a Panasonic TV by any chance? On my Panasonic TV, if I press the Pause button on the HDR remote whilst on the TV setting it will cause the TV to freeze the picture. Is it possible you pressed Pause when on TV, then realised the audio was still running then switched to PVR and pressed Pause again?

That's exactly what it is. I have a Panny ( sounds rude, somehow) and did exactly as you stated. Wonder what other hidden quirks there are?
