I think wearing leggings with a tunic top or dress looks nice but on their own with a vest/ t shirt it looks terrible no matter what you're figure is. It's bad when you can see peoples underwear through them. If I wear a short top with leggings I normally wear a miniskirt/black skirt over the leggings as I'd hate to have people looking at my bum!

Leggings are not a bad choice as an outfit. But it should be worn with long toppers. Then only it looks decent and elegant.

Most of the middle aged women I see have better figures than the young ones. Probably because having a muffin top and being proud of it wasn't acceptable 10 or more years ago.
This! Absolutely!

When I think of leggings and short tops I somehow can't help thinking Marcel Marceau, or maybe Max Wall (and if you're old enough to even vaguely recall him you are probably too old for leggings anyway!)

Funnily enough, my mum was on about this the other day! She asked me if I thought leggings were a pair of trousers and wished I'd wear tops long enough to cover my bum
See-through leggings are the bane of my life! I usually buy topshop ones and after a couple of washes they're ridiculously see-through! However, I have found another pair on topshop that are really thick, so I'm happy with them atm

just out of interest, what do you mainly tend to wear under yours? i love it me! is there something about exposing your underwear but in a way you can kind of get away with that appeals to you? Sort of reactions you get from men/women

it isnt a good look even if you've got the most perfect figure.... you all think seeing someones underwear is bad enough... the other week someone comitted this very fashion crime but i could actually see padding (ie.sanitary towel) ... i was totally grossed out!!

It's a definite NO, no matter what the figure. Shows too much outline of the buttox area.
I always wear shorts or skirts over leggings unless they are jeggings because they are pretty much like jeans and don't emphasise my buttox in a slutty manner. ;D

I don't care how good the leggings are, they should never be worn with a short t-shirt/top!

The simple test is to check you can exchange your leggings for tights and your outfit will still be complete!

People abusing leggings were what got them ridiculed and booted out of the fashion good-books in the 90s, clearly people haven't learnt.

As for see-through cheap leggings *vomit* and people thinking they can get away with it because they have a nice bum/figure: get over yourselves, noone wants to see your camel toe, your torso looks out of proportion and you look like a chav. Buy some nice opaque tights, some nice dresses and get some class!

You can tell this is a major bug-bear of mine

i have to admit that leggins that display a 'ladies' underwear has a certain appeal.

However, most of the people who follow this style look like they have just walked out of Jeremy Kyle's studio.

I witnessed a girl wearing what must have been a pair of tights yesterday with a vest top. Her underwear was clearly visible, and like most people on here, my first thought was why doesnt somebody tell you that you look awfull!

My Mrs wears leggins with black knickers normally but only when she's is at the gym or performing some excercise. You cant see her knicks but you can see the VPL which I actually quite like.

To summarise, Hotties - keep up the good work : poor quality, see through leggins & bright underwear.

Notties - Stop, please stop.

Something I'm seeing a lot of on the streets, shopping centres of the uk at the moment. Seems a lot of the girls in them though, you can quite clearly see what underwear they have on underneath, or are these leggings in fact tights or just cheap leggings made with thin material? Surely these girls must take a look at their behinds in the mirror before going out and realise their knickers are on show for all to see? Coming from a male point of view, I'm not complaining. Just wondered if any females on here have gone with this look or know of anyone who does this? What do you think to this or should leggings only be worn with something that covers the bum?

I would only wear leggings as if they were tights, so ie: under a dress.
I know what you mean though, a lot of people are doing it. It looks really skanky IMO. I also don't like the fashion of really small hotpants worn with tights, where the hotpants are so small you can see the gusset line of the tights on their thighs.

this reminds me of other day, a girl in whsmiths i saw, clearly with no shame what so ever and she was with both her parents!! i'm not just talking about faint vpl either, could see everything right down to the actual polka dots and how many of them they were on her thong i felt like saying to her, get some self respect and the worst thing is that these sort of sites seem to be the norm around most towns and city centres, it should be classed as indecent exposure.

I saw a perfectly respectable mum (in her early 30's) in Tesco at the weekend like this.

She was directly in front of me and didnt look like she was wearing anything underneath. She then bent over and they went completely see through.

Surely her husband would have told her ?!

When i see people in leggings I really do cringe, I can always see their pants. People are right though, some leggings aren't see through. I have this awesome pair of leggings from H&M and they cost something like $8 in the sale, they are really, really thick. Still wouldn't wear them with a short top though, I'd be too self conscious... I've given up wearing leggings full stop though as I really don't think they look good on anyone.

When leggings first came out in the 80's everyone wore them with thigh length roomy tops or big shirts. They were much thicker and stretchy, and we wore them with flats or tucked into boots. I enjoyed wearing them then.

I don't wear them anymore, and when I did, it was ALWAYS with long tops / tunic things. I don't wear them now because embarrassingly, they always fall down a bit so the crotch area gets baggy...seriously, not a sentence you ought to say about your clothes. And when this happens, how do you discreetly pull up said leggings? There is no way of doing it in public, not even with tiny movements.
