My Ipod Touch doesn't hold its charge

I charge the ipod Touch with USB or with mains adapter. It's fully charged. I turn it off. Then a day or two later, turn it on but it will not switch on because the battery is DEAD. Then have to charge it again but each time the same thing happens. I have to use it within hours of charging to be able to use it.

Can anyone suggest what I can do? I can't afford to buy a new one!!

You don't say what model it is or whether it's in warranty...

It's not in warranty. I got it December 2009.

It's 8GB and it's version 4 I think...

I had this problem a while back and it turned out all I needed to do was put airplane mode on because it was the wifi that was running the battery down so quickly. Hope that helps.

The operating system might be version 4, but it's not a 4th Gen iPod touch.

It is possible that your battery is starting to go if you've used it a lot. Those types of batteries do have a finite amount of charging cycles. That said, I have a 1st Gen that's older than that and it's still going strong. As the poster above suggests, make sure to turn off the wi-fi when you're not using it, and if you're not using the device for a few days, fully power it off by pressing and holding the power button on the top and swipe to turn off. That should hold your charge longer.

If the battery has had it, all is not lost.

You'll need a knowledgable, kind friend with a soldering iron if you recoil in fear from fixing electronic stuff.
A new cheap battery from eBay or similar.

Have a look through a few of these.

Looks perfectly do-able to me. Good luck.

Thanks... but I mean the charge is not staying on the ipod even when it's fully charged and the ipod is fully powered off. It won't switch on again
